Decisions Part 4

DAWSON IS AT JEN’S FRONT DOOR. KNOCKS AND DOOR IS OPENED BY JEN’S GRANDMOTHER.

DAWSON: Is Jen here?

GRANDMOTHER: No Dawson, she’s out with Clifford.

DAWSON: Could you please tell her that I stopped by. I really need to talk to her.

GRANDMOTHER: Fine…Goodbye. (closes door)

DAWSON STARTS TO WALK DOWN PORCH STAIRS. RUNS INTO JEN WALKING UP.

JEN: Dawson…What are you doing here?

DAWSON: Is the offer of a friend still active?….cause I could really use one right about now.

JEN: Of course it is….Look Grams thinks I’m still out with Cliff…do you want to go somewhere and talk?

DAWSON: You read my mind…let’s go.

DAWSON AND JEN START WALKING TOWARDS TOWN.

JEN: What’s wrong Dawson….You look like you just lost your best friend.

DAWSON: I think I did…You were right about Pacey and Joey.

JEN: I’m sorry Dawson…Are you gonna be okay?

DAWSON: I’m not sure. My head is swimming…I really believed in Joey.

JEN: I think you need to remember that you and Joey are friends first. If the rest doesn’t work out…you will always have that.

DAWSON: God…I wish I could turn back time.

JEN: What would you do different?

DAWSON: Everything…I would fix everything.

JEN: You can’t fix everything Dawson. Some things are just not fixable.

DAWSON: What about us Jen? Are we fixable?

JEN: (surprised) Where did that come from?

DAWSON: I was just remembering a few weeks back…You asked me for another chance…Do you still want that?

JEN: Yes Dawson…more than anything…but why?

DAWSON: Because your honest with me Jen. I really need that now.

JEN: Dawson, are you saying that your interested in a relationship with me again?

DAWSON: Yeah, I think I am….How about it Jen…want to give us another try?

JEN: (hugs Dawson) Yes Dawson. (kisses Dawson) I know this is going to work for us. We’ll be great together.

CUT TO JOEY AND PACEY AT ICEHOUSE.

JOEY: My life is ruined. I should have gone to Paris…I wonder if it’s too late.

PACEY: Yes Jo, it’s too late that ship has sailed….it’s really gonna be all right you know.

JOEY: How can you say that Pacey? Dawson hates me.

PACEY: Sure right now he does, but give it a couple of hours…He’ll cool off.

JOEY: Pacey, this is not all going to be all right in a couple of hours…you have to know that. Your relationship with Dawson is just as fragile as mine. Doesn’t that concern you?

PACEY: Sure it does…but frankly I think Dawson is going to realize that he’s blown this situation way out of proportion.

JOEY: What universe are you living in? Because down here on planet earth Dawson is justifiably angry at the both of us.

PACEY: Relax Jo. You’ll see…Dawson will come around.

JOEY: Whatever helps you sleep at night.

CUT TO DAWSON AND MR. LEERY IN THE LIVINGROOM.

DAWSON: Hey dad, do you have a minute?

MR. LEERY: Sure Dawson, pull up a seat…You look…well not happy. How can I help?

DAWSON: (sits down on footstool) I think I just made a big mistake.

MR. LEERY: What kind of mistake son?

DAWSON: It’s kind of a long story.

MR. LEERY: You have my undivided attention.

DAWSON: Okay…recently Joey and I decided to try being more than friends.

MR. LEERY: You and Joey? Well son that’s great. Joey’s a nice girl.

DAWSON: I think congratulations are premature at this point. It’s been a complete mess ever since then.

MR. LEERY: Did you and Joey have a fight?

DAWSON: No…but she was definitely upset with me….she wouldn’t even talk to me….To make things worse she accepted the scholarship to Paris.

MR. LEERY: Jo’s going to Paris?

DAWSON: No, not anymore…but I panicked. I asked Pacey to talk to her for me.

MR. LEERY: Sounds reasonable. Did Pacey learn anything?

DAWSON: Yeah…where her tonsils are located.

MR. LEERY: Pardon me?

DAWSON: Let’s just say…Pacey and Joey got a lot closer that night.

MR. LEERY: OK…I think I understand now. The big mistake you made was asking Pacey to talk to Joey.

DAWSON: Okay…I think I made two big mistakes.

MR. LEERY: There’s more?

DAWSON: Yes…after confronting Pacey and Jo…I got angry and left. I went straight to Jen’s.

MR. LEERY: You went to Jennifer’s? Can I ask why?

DAWSON: I’m not exactly sure…but I ended up asking her if she would give us another chance.

MR. LEERY: Ah…mistake number two.

DAWSON: I don’t know what to do. I’m afraid if Joey finds out there will be no hope for us. Maybe there wasn’t anyway. What should I do dad?

MR. LEERY: Dawson, I can’t tell you what to do. Decisions like this are what help us grow up. A little advice though…Decide not who you can live with, but who you can’t live without.

DAWSON: Is that what you did with mom?

MR. LEERY: I love your mother Dawson. Were trying to get past the mistakes we’ve made.

DAWSON: I want to find a way past what happened with Joey and Pacey….but honestly every time I think about it all I can picture is the two of them going at it.

MR. LEERY: I understand Dawson….believe me I understand. Maybe you need to make what you see less painful.

DAWSON: Less painful, how?

MR. LEERY: Replace the image…create your own memories. Right now you and Joey have no history of that kind…you feel inadequate to Pacey.

PHONE RINGS. MRS. LEERY COMES INTO LIVINGROOM.

MRS. LEERY: Dawson, the phones for you…it’s Joey.

DAWSON WALKS INTO HALLWAY AND PICKS UP PHONE.

DAWSON: (into phone) I can’t do this tonight Joey. (hangs up phone)
