Decisions Part 6

OPENING SCENE: JOEY IS AT THE ICEHOUSE WORKING. PACEY WALKS IN.

PACEY: (motions Joey over to him) Hey, good news…

JOEY: (interrupting) Where have you been Pacey? I was looking all over school for you.

PACEY: Dr. Rand kept me after class, but listen I’ve got some good news for you.

JOEY: Well I’ve got some bad news.

PACEY: Bad news? Okay then you first.

JOEY: Jen is planning on sleeping with Dawson tonight.

PACEY: How did you find that out?

JOEY: Jen told me. She said and I quote "All of Dawson’s needs will be met tonight."

PACEY: Never fear Jo. I’m pretty sure Dawson intends to break up with her tonight.

JOEY: Somehow I think that Jen offering herself up to him might make that more difficult.

PACEY: Trust me Jo. Me you might have to worry about, but Dawson has more willpower than that.

JOEY: God Pacey, I hope your right.

CUT TO DAWSON RINGING JEN’S DOORBELL. DOOR IS STANDING OPEN. JEN SHOUTS DOWN FROM UPSTAIRS.

JEN: Is that you Dawson?

DAWSON: Yeah Jen…it’s me.

JEN: Come on upstairs Dawson…I have a surprise for you.

DAWSON WALKS UPSTAIRS TO JEN’S BEDROOM. CANDLES ARE PLACED BY THE BED. SOFT MUSIC IS PLAYING IN THE BACKGROUND. JEN WALKS OUT OF BATHROOM WEARING A SHORT SILK ROBE. JEN HOLDING A LIT CANDLE WALKS OVER TO DAWSON.

JEN: If you make a wish and blow it out, I promise it will come true.

CUT TO JOEY AND PACEY AT THE ICEHOUSE. JOEY IS PACING.

JOEY: Pacey this waiting is driving me crazy. How long could it possibly take to say "Hey Jen, this just isn’t working out."

PACEY: Would you please relax Jo?

JOEY: I can’t relax Pacey. Right now Jen is probably showing Dawson how they "do it" in the big city.

PACEY: Okay Psycho-woman. You are just getting way too wound up here.

JOEY: I can’t stay here Pacey. I’m going for a walk.

PACEY: What if Dawson comes by?

JOEY: I wouldn’t count on it. But if he does…just tell him I’ll be back.

JOEY WALKS OUT TO THE BEACH. CUT BACK TO JEN’S HOUSE.

DAWSON: I am speechless. What were you planning on happening here tonight Jen?

JEN: (embarrassed) I thought we could get to know each other more intimately…obviously that isn’t what you want.

DAWSON: Timing is everything Jen. When we were together the first time…having sex with me was the furthest thing from your mind. What’s changed?

JEN: I thought that you were ready for this Dawson.

DAWSON: The real reason Jen.

JEN: I need to feel closer to you Dawson. I can’t shake this feeling that any minute now you could be gone out of my life.

DAWSON: And you think sleeping with me is the answer?

JEN: (moves closer to Dawson) It would help us feel more connected. Sharing such an intimate experience.

DAWSON: (pauses) Jen….Lets not make a mistake we would both regret.

JEN: (becoming angry) It’s because of Joey…isn’t it?

DAWSON: I’m not going to lie to you Jen. Joey and I still have a lot of unresolved issues. But this is about us. I think we both know that this isn’ t working.

JEN: (starts to cry) Are you breaking up with me Dawson?

DAWSON: Jen, I’m sorry. It’s just not fair to either of us to continue this.

JEN: God I feel like such a fool…I trusted you Dawson.

DAWSON: I’m really sorry.

JEN: (angrily interrupts) Just go Dawson! Go to your precious Joey. But remember when she breaks your heart…don’t come running back to me.

DAWSON: (consoling) Jen..I

JEN: (angry) Leave Dawson!

CUT TO ICEHOUSE: PACEY IS SITTING WATCHING JOEY FROM THE OUTSIDE TABLES AT THE ICEHOUSE.

BESSIE: Can I get you something Pacey?

PACEY: (still staring at Joey) No, unfortunately what I want isn’t on the menu.

BESSIE: You know Pacey, you shouldn’t take it personally. For as long as I can remember it’s always been about Dawson.

PACEY: Just tell me one thing Bessie…How many chances does the guy get to break her heart?

BESSIE: It’s one of the great mysteries of life.

DAWSON WALKS UP.

PACEY: Here’s Mr. Wonderful now.

DAWSON: Pacey…What are you doing here?

PACEY: Just having a chit-chat with Bessie.

DAWSON: (to Bessie) Is Joey here?

BESSIE: On the beach…waiting for you.

BESSIE WALKS BACK INTO RESTAURANT.

DAWSON: (to Pacey) How is she doing?

PACEY: She’s a little worried that your at Jen’s doing the horizontal mambo.

DAWSON: What? How did she know what Jen was planning?

PACEY: Jen told her. I think she was hoping to scare Joey off by playing her experience card.

DAWSON: (looking over at Joey on the beach) Does Joey know that I want to work things out?

PACEY: This is a question I believe you will need to ask her.

DAWSON: Maybe I shouldn’t talk to her here.

PACEY: Why not?

DAWSON: Because of what happened here between the two of you.

PACEY: Oh for God’s sake man, let it go! There is a beautiful woman out there and she is waiting for you. For once in your life don’t analyze the situation….Just follow your heart.

CUT TO JOEY ON BEACH. DAWSON WALKS UP BEHIND HER.

JOEY: Dawson, you’re here. Why are you here?

DAWSON: We need to talk.

JOEY: How was your date?

DAWSON: Jen and I broke up.

JOEY: You did? Why?

DAWSON: Because Jo…I want to work things out with you.

JOEY: Can we Dawson? Cause in order to do that, you’ll have to forgive me. Can you do that?

DAWSON: Jo…we’ve both made our mistakes.

JOEY: (interrupting) I’m not talking about our mistakes Dawson. I’m talking about mine, with Pacey. Can you forgive that?

DAWSON LOOKS AT JOEY. PULLS HER CLOSER FOR A KISS. AS KISS STARTS TO GET MORE PASSIONATE DAWSON PULLS AWAY.

JOEY: Dawson, what’s wrong?

DAWSON: I just have these images in my head of you and Pacey here. (Joey backs up) Where are you going Jo?

JOEY: Home Dawson…this obviously isn’t working. Just for the record though. You were the only one thinking of Pacey.

DAWSON: Jo, I’m sorry.

JOEY: Yeah, me too Dawson. But sorry doesn’t change the facts. I messed up.

DAWSON: Joey please don’t go….We can talk this through.

JOEY: It’s futile Dawson. This circular talk gets us nowhere. It’s pretty simple. Either you forgive me or you don’t.

DAWSON: What would you do Jo? If the situation were reversed, would you forgive me?

JOEY: I honestly don’t know Dawson. I guess it would put my feelings for you in limbo.

DAWSON: I can’t imagine my life with out you Jo. Best friends forever. Remember? When did life become so complicated?

JOEY: Dawson…We don’t have to decide our futures tonight. Let’s just quit while were ahead.

FLASHBACK TO CONVERSATION BETWEEN DAWSON AND HIS FATHER.

DAWSON: I want to find away past what happened between Joey and Pacey…but honestly every time I think about it all I can picture is the two of them going at it.

MR. LEERY: I understand Dawson, believe me I understand. Maybe you should try and find a way to make the images less painful.

DAWSON: Less painful, how?

MR. LEERY: Replace the images…create your own memories…

CUT BACK TO BEACH. DAWSON IS STANDING NEXT TO JOEY.

JOEY: Dawson, where did you go? I lost you there for a second.

DAWSON: Nowhere Jo. (Dawson pulls Joey closer to him and starts kissing her passionately)

JOEY: (stops kissing him) Dawson, what’s going on?

DAWSON: Just following some parental advice….Don’t ask. (starts kissing her again)

CUT TO PACEY STANDING NEXT TO HIS BIKE WATCHING DAWSON AND JOEY.

PACEY: Dawson Leery you were definitely born under a lucky star…Take good care of her man. (gets on bike and rides off.)

CUT BACK TO DAWSON AND JOEY KISSING AND FADE OUT.
