Spoilers: Okay, Jen has arrived, but Dawson isn't the one that's drooling over her. It's Pacey. And Joey hasn't realized her feelings for Dawson and has a crush on Pacey. Dawson hasn't realized his feelings for Joey, (but only for a few more minutes) and after he got to know Jen he decided she wasn't his type. Okay, this is an extremely weird story. Probably one of the weirdest that will ever come along in the DC fanfiction era. I mean, read the spoilers!!!! For the life of me, I couldn't tell you how I came up with this. And it was hard writing a semi-P\J story since I'm like, the biggest D\J that's everlived.

Dazed and Confused

"Hey, Jo," Dawson said as Joey climbed through his window.

"Dawson, I have something to tell you," Joey said, obviously upset.

"What?" Dawson asked her, worried. "I have...kind of a 'thang' for Pacey."

"WHAT???!!! You mean, ''Pacey 'Bite me' Witter?????"

Joey nods. "But he has a crush on Jen, remember?????"

"Oh, yeah. What are you gonna do about that????"

"Well, I kinda came up with a plan...but it involves you..."

"What is it, Jo?" Dawson sighed.

"Well, we pretend to be together to make Pacey jealous..."

"Joey, no way!!!!!!!!!"

She goes up to him and gets down on her knees. "Please...I'll be your best friend!!!!"

He looks into her eyes and feels an attraction, and can't shake the feeling off. "Oh...fine."

"Thank you SO much, Dawson!!!" She heads towards the window but before climbing out, she turns back and says, "I'll come over early tomorrow and we'll discuss this." She climbs out the window but before she climbs down the ladder, she yells to him, "YOU WON'T REGRET THIS!!!!! I PROMISE!!!!!!!!"

When Dawson's sure she's gone, he remembers the attraction he felt toward Joey, (Dawson, the perceptive one....it's scaring me, too) he sighs and says to himself, "Yeah, I'm sure I won't regret it."

The next morning....

"Dawson, Dawson..." Joey shakes Dawson, trying to wake him up.

"Huh??? Jo...what are you doing here????"

"Remember...plan??? You, me, pretend to be together so I make Pacey jealous?????"

"Oh yeah, that plan...."

"Well, okay, so when we get to school and see Pacey, we tell him that we've gotten together, and when we're around him, we act like we've totally fallen for one another. You know, we even go as far as pet names...so don't refrain from calling me 'sweetheart' or anything disgustingly absurd like that. Kay, Dawson???"

''Sure, Jo. It's written in my head."

"Thanks, Dawson," she says, heading for the window. She turns back to him. "You're the best."

When she's gone, Dawson gets up from his bed and starts to get dressed. He plays back the conversation he just had with Joey, and remembers the last thing she said, ( "You're the best") and thought out loud, "If I'm the best, then why aren't you falling for me?????"

As he walks to school, "Iris" by the Goo Goo Dolls starts to play.

The song ends as Dawson enters the doors of Capeside High. He looks around to try to find Joey, but instead is found by Pacey.

"Dawson, congrats!!! Joey told me that you guys got together!!!!"

Dawson tries as hard as he can to make his performance real, and actually succeeded.

"Yeah.'' Just then, Joey comes up to them and kisses Dawson on the cheek.

"Hi, Dawson."

"Hey, Jo." He gives her a peck on the forehead.

"Please, you two make me sick." The bell rings.

"I guess I'm off to Biology," Joey sighed. "See you, Pace. Bye, Dawson. See you at lunch?"

"Why wouldn't I????????" Pacey, you are one lucky guy.

"C'mon, Dawson." Pacey takes his wrist and drags him to whatever class they have. While Pacey isn't looking at Joey, she puts a thumbs towards Dawson to signal 'good'. As Dawson turned back towards Pacey, he, (Pacey,) pointed out a new poster.

"Hey, Dawson. Look. 'Dance this Saturday. School gym. 7:00-11:00.' I can ask Jen, and you will naturally ask Joey."

"Yeah, sure, Pacey. We'll ask them at lunch."

The hours past until lunch came around, when Dawson, Joey, Pacey, and Jen gathered at their usual table.

"So, Jen....I hear there's a dance Saturday. Wanna come with me?" Pacey starts off.

"Sure, Pace."

Joey looks at Dawson. "Naturally, you'll go with me, Jo." She smiles at him and quickly brushes her lips across his.

"Will someone please fill me in here?" Jen asked, confused, (hey, the title of this thing is "Dazed & Confused", isn't it?)

"Well, let's put it this way-- Joey, in time to come, will be Mrs. Dawson Leery."

"Oh, congrats, you guys!!!" She then sarcastically adds, "You're not getting married, are you????"

"Haha, very funny, Jen," Joey remarks coldly.

That Saturday......

''Okay, Joey, we're getting you ready for this dance."

"Bessie!!!!!!!!!"

"C'mon, Jo," Bessie says, dragging her sister by the wrist.

A few hours later, Dawson rowed across the creek to pick up Joey. As he tied up his boat and walked to her door, he disheartenly thought about his change of feelings for her. Well, I guess if she and Pacey get together, I'll only have to be happy for her. He sighed and rang the doorbell.

"Hey, Dawson, Joey'll be down in a sec," Bessie answered the door. There was a sudden cry. "There Alex goes again. Relax, Dawson, sit on the couch."

Dawson sat down on the couch and picked up Bon Appetite and opened it to a random page. He read the headline "Are you feeling unspecial? Not loved?"

"Sounds like me," Dawson muttered. He continued to read. "Well, then we have the anwser for you: try Full Color hair dye and there will certainly be a few glances thrown your way!!!"

Dawson laughed at his stupidity. "This is what it has come to. I now think that anwsers to all my problems were in a hair dye commercial."

"Hey, Dawson," he heard a familiar voice say, but somewhat softer.

He turned his head to find...a completely transformed Joey. She was wearing a short fitted red spagetti strap dress with matching heels. Her hair was in a french twist with tendrils on the side of her face. Dawson blushed at his completely transformed best friend and his new-found feelings for her. "Joey, don't get all feminine on me, or I may have to start calling you Josephine."

She walked over to Dawson and punched him playfully on the arm. "Shut up. You know very well why I did this..."

"You're right. I do." He got up off the couch. "C'mon, Jo, let's go."

"I'm going, I'm going." Joey hurriedly ran out the door with Dawson at her heels. They walked to the dance in silence. Joey took Dawson's hand as the so called couple walked into the doors of Capeside High and into the gym.

"There's Pacey & Jen!!!!" Joey pointed out. "I'm gonna follow them. You stay here," she said, walking off.

Pacey led Jen outside of the gym, and when they stopped, Joey was a few feet away from them.

"Look, Jen, I know this is kinda out of the blue and everything, but will you...will be my girlfriend??" Pacey blurted.

Jen smiled. "Why I'd love to, Pacey." She kissed him on the cheek and then he kissed her on the lips. The kiss deepens and Joey is biting her lip and closing her eyes, trying to fight off tears. She then runs off to Dawson.

"Dawson!!" Joey burried her head in his chest. "Pacey and Jen are a...couple."

"It'll be okay, Jo. Maybe it just wasn't meant to be."

"I guess you're right." Joey sniffled. "Look, can we just dance???? Maybve it'll get my mind off Pacey."

"Sure, Joey." He took her hand and lead her to the dance floor, (or whatever,) just as a fast song ended. The DJ then programed the Backstreet Boys "I'll Never Break Your Heart". Dawson took Joey in his arms, she put her head on his shoulder, and they started to dance.

Joey lifted her head off of Dawson's shoulder and looked directly into his eyes. She felt a spark between them. Could it be--

Dawson realized the value of this song at the moment. Little did he know that Joey had just realized she had fallen for Dawson completely and she decided then that Pacey was only a passing infatuation and that she really loved Dawson. She wanted to tell him so bad. Joey then leaned up and kissed him. He kissed back in full. What took me so long to realize he was such a good kisser???

Wonder what brought this on. Eh, why should I care??? Because you could just be the rebound guy. When Dawson realized this, he broke away. "Joey, am I just the rebound guy??"

"Excuse me???"

"I mean, you know, now that Pacey and Jen are a couple, and you had kind of a 'thang' for Pacey, you're not just trying to find comfort with me, are you????"

"Dawson, Dawson," Joey said softly, caressing his face, "Pacey was just a passing infatuation. I really do love you. Of all things, that song made me realize it. I promise."

"Promise?"

"Cross Speilberg's heart, hope he dies."

"Backstreet Boys "I'll Never Break Your Heart", our song??"

"Mmhm," Joey mumbled before kissing him again. The two were finally a couple.

Okay, that was my first one part story, so it coulda been horrible. I said it before and I'll say it again: it was a spur-of-the moment kind of thing.
