Last part
Act Three

Rating- R. Just because the others were. Nothing all that bad in this one.

Classification- Love Triangle

Summary-Joey and Pacey hung out, trying to become friends again. Along the way, they fell in love and had their second night of blind passion. Jen had her gallery opening. Annie and Dawson showed up in New York. Annie found out about Joey and Pacey, although Dawson is still clueless. Pacey asked to meet Joey.

This World, Then The Fireworks

Joey rubbed her hands up and down her arms. It was cold, and Central Park wasn't the greatest place to be at night.

"Joey?" Pacey said, walking up.

"Hey," Joey said.

"Annie and I broke up tonight," Pacey said sadly.

"Oh my god, I'm so sorry," Joey said, hugging Pacey.

"Does Dawson know?" Pacey asked.

"I don't know how to tell him," Joey said, "I haven't worked up the nerve."

Pacey sighed. Here came the hard part. "You don't have to," Pacey said.

Joey was confused. "Pardon?" she said.

"Joey, we could never work," Pacey said, "we've already hurt one too many people. Dawson's a great guy, he'll make you happy. You should be with him."

"No," Joey said, sobbing, "I want you."

"I could never make you happy," Pacey said, "besides, you would feel guilty about breaking Dawson's heart. I'm not sure he could take it."

"But I love you!" Joey cried, throwing her arms around him.

"And I love you too," Pacey said, hugging her, "but we both know it wasn't meant to be."

Pacey slowly pushed Joey away. "We can never meet again," Pacey said, "it would hurt too badly. I'll always love you Joey. I always have, I always will."

"And I'll always love you," Joey said.

Pacey smiled sadly at her, before turning and walking away.

Letting out a sob, Joey fell down on the ground and cried to the night. "I'll love him, but only on my own," she said to the night sky.

9 Months Later

Joey screamed. "Get it out of me!" she yelled.

"I can see the head!" Dawson said excitedly.

Joey pushed a couple more times and finally the sound of crying was heard.

"It's a boy," the doctor announced.

Joey fell back against the pillow, tired. The doctors and nurses cleaned off the baby and set him in Joey's arms.

"He's beautiful," Dawson said to his wife, kissing her on the lips.

Joey smiled at the baby. He was beautiful. Tufts of dark hair covered his head. His little eyes squinted shut as he leaned against his mother.

"As beautiful as his mom," Dawson said.

Epilogue

Little Steven, as Joey and Dawson named him, went home the next day. All of Joey and his father's smile.

Pacey's smile.

Dawson's friends stopped in to say hello to the new addition.

Joey had just put Steven down for a nap, the next week, when there was a knock at the door. A Fed-Ex mailman was standing at the door. "Package for Joey Leery," he said.

"This is she," Joey said. The mailman handed her the package.

Joey carried it inside, expecting another gift for the baby. Opening it, she saw the contents were a book and a letter. Joey opened the letter curiously. It read:

Joey,
I hear congratulations are in order. I know it's wrong of me to contact you now, I know, but I'm a firm believer that sometimes it's right to do the wrong thing.

I'm doing well. Annie moved out a few months ago. I'm trying life on my own for a while. I think I need to. Jen is doing well, she's earned enough to rent a larger apartment.

I wanted you to be the first to get a copy of a book. I recently finished writing it. You were my inspiration. You always were. I hope you enjoy it. I'll always love you.

Your Marius,
Pacey

Joey looked at the book and laughed. The title was Eponine. "He remembered," she said, "he always did."

Dawson walked in just as Joey was laughing. "What's so funny?" he asked.

"I'm just remembering something," Joey said, "about the time when I knew I would never be on my own again."

The End

Author's Note- I didn't want to end it like this, I considered making it happy. But that wouldn't be realistic. You can trash the story, you can hate it, you can flame me, but before you do, think about this. It's a story. Don't go too deep.
