  • Lonely Planet Travel Survival Kit Japan - Chris Taylor et al., 1997, Lonely Planet Publications

Don’t go anywhere without, or with anything other than the local Lonely Planet Travel Survival Kit - essential. This edition published October 1997. Visit the Lonely Planet Homepage.

  • Lonely Planet City Guide Tokyo - Chris Taylor, 1995, Lonely Planet Publications

Equally as good and more suitably pocket sized. Only necessary if you will spend a lot of time in this city and not other parts of Japan. NEW EDITION DUE THIS YEAR!

  • Japan for the Impoversihed - Jim Rickman, 1995, Borgnan Corporation

Good coverage of transport and accomodation (its main purpose). Interesting and refreshing sightseeing guide. A great complement to the LP guide.

  • AA Explorer Japan - David Scott, 1997, AA Publishing

A nicely laid out guide with lots of colour photographs on every page. Unfortunately, like many other guides, this has two of the most important parts, accomodation and eating out, badly covered and shoved in somewhere at the end of the book. Back to Lonely Planet!
