Marcel Duchamp
(1887-1968)

I am doing a research on Dadaism.  First, I have gathered some general information about Dadaism then I  narrowed my topic down to only one artist  I chose Marcel Duchamp and started to focus about his life and his contributions to Dadaism and the society.  Marcel Duchamp was a French Dada artist born on July 28,1887..  He was a leading artist in Cubism, Dadism, Surrealism, Op Art and Pop Art.  He was a strong influence on the development of 20th-century avant-garde art.  In 1923, Duchamp produced his famous masterpiece known as the Large Glass.  He also pioneered two of the main innovations of the 20th century which are kinetic art and ready-made art.  His Bicycle Wheel is an example of kinetic art which was mounted on a kitchen stool.  In 1924, he became chess champion of haute-Normandie, and continued to play tournaments throughout France.  In 1955, he became an American citizen. Finally, he died in Paris on October 1, 1968.
