Rock music in Guatemala was virtually non-existent throughout most of the 70s. The first band to make an impact on the scene was the band Alux Nahual, in the mid 80s. This was practically the only band of importance in the rock genre in Guatemala. Not until the early 90s did bands like Bohemia Suburbana, Stress, and Viernes Verde form. These were the standard bearers of the movement throughout the early to mid 90s, when most of the other groups listed here began to appear. With the solid backing of some national record labels and various clubs and venues, ROCK IN GUATEMALA is as strong as ever.
