OMONOIA were in devastating form in Pafos, where they beat EVAGORAS 8-1 and continued their unbeaten run to their 18th championship. This time RAUFFMANN hit only two, first on 30th minute and second on 84th minute from the penalty spot. But it was KITANOV who stole the show with a hat trick on 14th, 27th and 32nd minute, while KONTOLEFTEROS also scored twice on 73rd and 77th minute. KAIAFAS was the other name on the scoresheet for OMONOIA on 45th minute, while DRAGISIC pulled one back for the losers from the penalty spot on 80th minute.

A penalty that had to be taken twice and a sending off in the first half were the main talking points after OMONOIA'S game against SALAMINA at the FAMAGUSTA stadium, which ended with the visitors winning 3-2. RAUFFMANN saw his penalty saved by MARKOU but the referee ordered a re-take, because players from both sides had entered the area before the ball was struck. The second time RAUFFMANN was luckier and his goal put OMONOIA 2-1 ahead. In the 42nd minute, SALAMINA player N.A.NIKOLAOU retaliated a foul and was given a second yellow card. The winners played below their ability and showed that they were missing the injured MARAGGOS and MALEKKOS. They went behind in the 28th minute folowing a MIHIC goal before equalising through N.GEORGIOU in the 65th. RAUFFMAN'S penalty came in the 74th minute and KITANOV put the result beyond doubt in the 81st. Two minutes later N.K.NIKOLAOU made it 3-2.

A very quiet afternoon for OMONOIA was the game against APEP for the first round of CYPRUS CUP. APEP a 3rd division team just tried to play a good game without any demands in mind. After a very average first half, OMONOIA came out storming in the second half, scoring four goals and making sure of a place in the cup quarterfinals. KITANOV opened the scoring in the 52nd minute with a well-placed direct free kick and from then on it was OMONOIA doing all the attacking with OLYMPIAKOS concentrating on not conceding a second goal rather than on how to score an equaliser. OMONOIA'S second goal came seven minutes from time through RAUFFMANN and there followed two more, the first in the 88th minute from a fierce shot by KONTOLEFTEROS and the second by RAUFFMANN in last minute.

Thanks to a much better second half performance, OMONOIA crushed EVAGORAS 6-1 and with a little luck they could have taken their goal tally into double figures. RAUFFMANN scored a hat trick, on 30th minute opened the score with a header, on 62nd with a great attemp made score 3-0 and on 74th with a penalty made the score 4-0. MARAGGOS made score 2-0 with a header on 52nd minute, N.GEORGIOU made score 5-0 on 80th and ODYSSEOS on 89th made score 6-0. EVAGORAS ruduced on 90th minute thanks to KOUCOL goal.

In dreadful muddy conditions at the MAKARIOS Stadium, OMONOIA beat OLYMPIAKOS for the second time, though not quite as decisively as the first leg 4-0 thrashing. This time it was 2-1, a score brought about by a team containing a considerable number of young players. MARAGGOS scored in the 10th minute, while CIRIC equalised in the 80th, followed eight minutes later by a second for OMONOIA thanks to EL.CHARALAMBOUS.

OMONOIA were forced to play at PARALIMNI instead of NICOSIA, but they still managed to beat SALAMINA by 4-1 thanks to an action past closing 22 minutes. In the 68th minute, RAUFFMANN won and penalty and scored the first goal of the game from the spot. Two minutes later MALEKKOS made it 2-0. In the 79th, MIHIC pulled one back from penalty spot but within four minutes KITANOV took the score to 3-1 and in the 86th RAUFFMANN scored his second to take the result way beyond doubt. OMONOIA also had two shots on post by MALEKKOS on 29th and 58th minute.

In front of 16,000 supporters, OMONOIA crushed LINFIELD 5-1 for their UEFA cup.
Although it was OMONOIA'S first home game of the new season, they showed for much of the game that they will be a force to be reckoned with in the local league championship.
From the first minute of the match they showed a determination to score, but things were not easy until the ball found the back of the Northern Irish side's net for the first time. That was on 40' when Kitanov made it 1-0 with a header.

OMONOIA appeared to have forgotten to take their
defense
to Belfast with them, so they were lucky to have had the protection of their first leg 5-1 victory. Although they have qualified for the next round of the UEFA Cup, their defeat provided plenty of food for thought for fans and club officials. Against a team that had essentially given up hope of qualifying, they went ahead 2-0 and then 3-1, but the excellent side of the first half hour degenerated into an absolutely dreadful one for the rest of the game.
It took only 3 minutes for Maraggos to put OMONOIA 1-0 in front from a set piece free kick while Kitanov hit the second in the 15th minute. Four minutes later, Feeney hit LINFIELD'S first, but in the 23rd Ioakim headed in OMONOIA'S third. So far, so good. It was after Gorman scored LINFIELD'S second goal in the 35th minute that the Cypriot team's nightmare began. On the stroke of half time McDonald hit the
equaliser while in the 48th minute Gorman scored his second to put LINFIELD 4-3 ahead. The final 5-3 result came about when Campbell scored in the 73rd minute. Both sides were unlucky when shots hit the bar, Ferguson for LINFIELD in the 29th minute and Malekos for OMONOIA in the 89th.

Another great victory for OMONOIA. This time crushed RAPID of VIENNA 3-1 for the first game of the 2nd round of UEFA cup. A score that could be greater if opponent goalkeeper MAIER was not in very good form.
But it was Rapid who managed to frighten OMONOIA. It was the 22nd minute when a long pass into the heard of OMONOIA area, made a confusion among OMONOIA defenders and WIMMER with a header send the ball into the net giving RAPID the lead of the game.
From that time OMONOIA showed a determination to equalise the score, but things were not so easy until the 36th minute when referee send off the game BRAUN with a red card. Thats all. OMONOIA took the whole control of the game, and it was matter of time to hit the equaliser. That was on 41st minute when RAUFFMANN send the ball in RAPID net equalising the game.
It took only 50 seconds from the second half for Malekkos to put OMONOIA 2-1 in front. At this point Malekkos showed a superb skill when managed to overpass all RAPID defenders and with a fantastic shot, made his attempt effective.
Third goal for OMONOIA came on 57th minute when MARAGGOS with a pass from the left found IOAKIM head and RAUFFMANN shot the ball at RAPID net making the score 3-1 for OMONOIA. Until the end of the game OMONOIA found and many other chances to score more goals but opponent goalkeeper made the great appearance of his career.

OMONOIA failed to take the initiative and go all-out for victory against RAPID VIENNA and thereby threw away their big chance of reaching the first round oh the UEFA cup. They lost 2-0 in VIENNA, a score which was just enough for RAPID to qualify, having scored an away goal in their 3-1 defeat in NICOSIA. OMONOIA players insistence on playing a purely defensive game until the 70th minute when the Austrians scored their second goal proved to be the wrong tactic-OMONOIA are a naturally attacking team and were unable to play defensively for such a long period of the match against a very average European side.
RAPID went ahead in the 9th minute through a HERAF goal, which left them with another 80 minutes in which to score the single goal they required for qualification. OMONOIA should have changed strategy at once instead of fatalistically awaiting the second RAPID goal, which eventually came in the 70th minute when FREUD blasted a shot from 25 metres. CHARITOU failed to clear properly, giving WAGNER the chance to put the ball in the net.
The final score in the game, was a fair one, given that the home side was in control throughout, keeping OMONOIA trapped in their own half for 70 of the 90 minutes. OMONOIA only had two chances near the RAPID goal-N.NIKOLAOU missed a great chance in the 34th minute and KITANOV had a scoring opportunity in the final minutes.

OMONOIA crashed away ETHNIKOS AH. 4-2 for the first game of the new season. RAUFFMANN was the superstar of the game scoring all the goals for OMONOIA team. First goal came on first minute of the game. Second goal came 3 minutes after break, third was on 63rd minute with a penalty and fourth on 71st minute. ETHNIKOS reduced on 79th minute with a penalty by MOUCIC and on 85th minute M.PASIALIS with a header made the final score 2-4.

The clash of the giants, between OMONOIA and ANORTHOSI, ended in a 1-1 draw. Nevertheless, the second big match of the 60th football championship was a very good game, full of excitement, and it would have been a shame for either side to lose. As it is, both sides were pleased with the result and, even though the 16,000 spectators (mostly OMONOIA fans), who thronged the MAKARIOS stadium were somewhat disappointed that there was no winner. So, the fight for the title continues unabated. On the whole, the hosts were the better side and created more opportunities. They were denied a goal by RAUFFMANN, in the 19th minute, wrongly disallowed as offside, and in the 57th ANORTHOSI went ahead through OKKAS. ANORTHOSI were reduced to ten players in the 82nd minute, when SPYROU was sent off a mere 25 seconds after he entered the game as a substitute. This change in balance gave OMONOIA'S German ace the chance he needed to avenge his side. Shortly before the end of the game, he took up a high ball and sent it crashing into the ANORTHOSI net to equalise for the final 1-1 score.

4,000 OMONOIA fans flocked to the MAKARIOS stadium in the hope of seeing lots of goals, but they were disappointed by both sides. KITANOV found the back of the net in the 33rd minute to earn the three points but it was a mediocre match.

OMONOIA'S match against APOLLON was settled in the first 45 minutes, at the end of which they were 4-0 ahead. They hit a fifth goal in the second half. In front of 15,000 spectators, RAUFFMANN was once again the star of the show with another hat trick, one goal of which was a penalty. MALEKKOS and KITANOV scored the other two. In the last minute APOLLON managed to pull one back thanks to MLADENOVIC. SPOLIARIC was sent off for dissent in the 55th minute.
First goal for OMONOIA came on second minute of the game by MALEKKOS, second was on 10th minute with a penalty by RAUFFMANN, third was on 33rd minute with a header by RAUFFMANN again, fourth came on 37th minute by KITANOV and last fifth goal came on 79th minute when RAUFFMANN showed a superb skill when managed to overpass all RAPID defenders and with a fantastic shot, made his attempt effective.

Fans of both sides could not fail to note that AEK'S win ended an unbeaten streak for OMONOIA side stretching back to October 5, 1997 when, at the same stadium, a winning goal was scored against them in the very same minute (62')..by AEK. A year ago it was STYLIANIDES penalty, this time the goal came from a player who had enjoyed several seasons of success with OMONOIA and signed to AEK this season. XIOUROUPPAS hit the only goal of the match, sinking his former club with a goal that went against the run of play. OMONOIA missed plenty of chances, including a shot by KAIAFAS which hit the post and even saw a clear goal disallowed for offside. OMONOIA were also at a disadvantage, having to play without three key players(MARAGGOS-MALEKKOS-KITANOV). The game was also notable for the second sending off this season of AEK'S player THEODOTOU in the 83rd minute.

OMONOIA'S shock defeat at the hands of AEK the week before was still affecting the Nicosia team who dropped two points at Paralimni. The final 1-1 scoreline came in the first half and both goals were unusual in that in neither instance did the ball reach the back of the net. In 24th minute the home side went ahead through a McDONALD header, which IOAKIM headed back out, but the ball was deemed to have crossed the line. Five minutes later MALEKKOS took a corner which the ENP goalkeeper punched out when it had already gone over the line. OMONOIA supporters are already anxious about the fact that their team, normally an attacking unit, has scored only once in 180 minutes of play, despite having ace scorer RAUFFMANN in the line-up. What's more, in their game against ENP they failed to take advantage of their numerical strength following the dismissal of LOIZOU in the 41st minute for a second yellow card offence.

The 5-1 scoreline from OMONOIA'S clash with ARIS may indicate a walkover but it was anything but that. The OMONOIA side went 1-0 behind on 13th minute after NIKOLAOU scored for ARIS before equalising on 22nd minute through a RAUFFMANN penalty. It was not until the 61st minute that they pulled 2-1 ahead, again thanks to a RAUFFMANN penalty, after MARAGGOS was brought down. He came on as a substitute on 54th minute and was the driving force behind his team's transformation. KITANOV on 65th, KAIAFAS on 73rd and KONTOLEFTEROS on 84th made the final score 5-1.

This time it was OMONOIA turn to win the twice-yearly Cyprus classic derby against APOEL, who may have earned a reputation for overturning deficits but failed to do so last weekend. OMONOIA were 1-0 behind at half-time thanks to COSTA'S 31st minute goal, but they managed to turn things upside down with the goals by MALEKKOS on 68' minute and RAUFFMANN on 77' with a penalty. The rain did not prevent 20,000 supporters from turning up at the MAKARIOS stadium to watch an exciting game. In the first half APOEL were the more dangerous, and before COSTA'S 31st minute goal IOANNOU had hit the bar in the 21st. The second half saw OMONOIA dominant, with most of the game being played in APOEL'S half. MALEKKOS played a leading role in the goals scoring the first and winning the penalty which led to the second when he was brought down by STAVROU. The offender remostrated with the referee and was sent off. The final quarter of a hour was a real thriller as both teams missed several good scoring chances.

The 6,000 spectators of the game, saw a real thriller. At half time it looked as if OMONOIA, leading 4-0, were going to thrash the other NICOSIA side, but the score changed to 4-2, to 5-2, to 5-3, then 5-4 and OLYMPIAKOS could even have equalised. OMONOIA were down to 10 players from the 55th minute following the sending off of KONNAFIS which certainly helped their opponents. OMONOIA'S goals were scored by STAVROU(o.g) on 10th minute, by KITANOV on 12',34' and 37th minute and RAUFFMANN on 76th, while OLYMPIAKOS striker PETKOVSKI hit three on 51st,56th and 79th minute and the fourth came from DEMETRIADES on 88th minute.

There was no winner in the entertaining AEL v OMONOIA game at Limassol's Tsirion Stadium which ended in an 3-3 draw. The result left OMONOIA feeling sour as they saw themselves drop from second place to third in the table, four points adrift from ANORTHOSI.The visitors went ahead in the 3rd minute through KITANOV but AEL were quick to reply, first with a shot that hit the post in the 9th minute and then an equaliser two minutes later through NEOFYTOU. The home team went ahead after half an hour through CON/DES but OMONOIA levelled the score again after 50 minutes of play through KAIAFAS. AEL again took the lead in the 72nd minute through SOFOKLEOUS but their celebrations were shortlived as MALEKKOS scored for OMONOIA their third a minute later. 16,000 spectators saw the match which was notable for the two penalties that refery was denied for OMONOIA.

ALKI were lucky to get away with 'only' a three-goal defeat at the MAKARIOS stadium. OMONOIA threw away many scoring chances and on a number of occasions when they were on target, they were denied by goalkeeper ANDREOU who was in exceptional form. All three goals came in the first half, scored by MALEKKOS on 21st, KITANOV on 35th and RAUFFMANN on 44th minute.

The clash of the giants, between ANORTHOSI and OMONOIA, ended in a 2-2 draw in front of 12,000 fans. Nevertheless, the big match was a very good game, full of excitement, and it would have been a shame for either side to lose. The 2-2 draw between ANORTHOSI and OMONOIA has boosted the reigning champions' chances of retaining their title and lessened those of their second-placed rivals. OMONOIA wanted to win this game at all costs and until the 80th minute it looked as if they were going to succeed. But then IOANNOU headed in the equaliser. OMONOIA went ahead twice, first in the third minute through MALEKKOS and again in the 45th, thanks to a RAUFFMANN penalty but they were unable to maintain their lead against ANORTHOSI. MELANARKITIS struck the first equalising goal on 35th minute and IOANNOU the second on 80th minute.

The derby in the swamplike conditions of the MAKARIOS stadium saw the age-old rivals battling it out to a draw 2-2. OMONOIA ended the game with a great deal to think about since their performance was not up to standard, but they could afford to smile at the final scoreline which was the best they could have hoped for given the way they played. In this game, OMONOIA were officially the away team, so even a 0-0 or 1-1 draw will be enough to put them though to the semifinals. The game was notable for some things: the awful state of the pitch which was like a mud bath, the fact that 20,000 supporters attended, and the brilliant performance by two players: OMONOIA goalkeeper YIALLOURIS, whose fantastic saves prevented APOEL from winning the game and PETKOVIC, who was APOEL'S best player. OMONOIA went ahead in the 6th minute thanks to a goal by RAUFFMANN and COSTA equalised for APOEL in the 23rd. A RAUFFMANN penalty in the 52nd minute made it 1-2, followed by PETKOVIC'S equalising goal in the 76th. Six minutes earlier, COSTA had hit the bar of the OMONOIA goal.

OMONOIA had an anxious time in their game against bottom-placed DOXA, finally winning 2-3. RAUFFMANN scored twice on 58th and 65th minutes and KONNAFIS hit the third while for DOXA, who had equalised on 1-1, MAVROFTIS and POCHOUZOURIS were the scorers on 45th and on 72nd minutes.

APOEL disposed of OMONOIA with ease, winning 3-0. It was the first time that such a scoreline had been seen in a Cup game between the two sides since neither side has ever beaten the other by more than two goals. The MAKARIOS Stadium was packed, as was the first leg game, and APOEL'S fans, at least, saw that their side deserved to go through. They went ahead in the 35th minute, but it was an incident four minutes later which may have proved to be the turning point. OMONOIA best player MALEKKOS became involved in a violent argument with the referee's assistant, at which, the referee sent him off. finding themselves reduced to ten men was the last thing that OMONOIA needed and they were perhaps lucky that 20 minutes later, APOEL'S KOTCIC received a second yellow card and was also sent off. That might have given OMONOIA the chance to feel that they were back on equal terms, but only three minutes later MARCELLO made it 2-0. In the 82nd minute, HADJILOUKAS added a third.

In the weekend's top game, OMONOIA deafeted AEK 1-0 in Larnaka to stay firmly in the title race. About ten thousand spectators saw KONTOLEFTEROS score the "golden" goal in the 68th minute, just five minutes after he came on a substitute.

OMONOIA had a much easier time of taking three points from ENP than anyone expected. The 5-0 score speaks for itself. There were goals from RAUFFMANN on 27th and 49th minutes from KITANOF on 2nd minute, from MARAGGOS on 11th and from ODYSSEOS on 67th.

OMONOIA had a good chance to improve their goal difference between them and ANORTHOSI, but in the end they put only four past ARIS, the same number as the leaders scored. The Nicosia side missed countless chances, including a penalty and two shots on the bar. There were three goals by RAUFFMANN on 40th minute, on 76th and 90th minute. Also N.Georgiou scored on 51st minute.

For the second time, OMONOIA'S 20-year-old striker KONTOLEFTEROS has come on as a substitude and hit the winning goal. First happened against AEK and this time, eleven minutes after coming on in the 76th minute, he struck a perfect shot to give his side a crucial 1-0 win over APOEL. This was essentially a knock-out blow to APOEL'S title hopes. Around 20,000 spectators watched the Nicosia derby in which OMONOIA looked the more determined to secure three points. They did it in a game which was luckily without incided, either on or off the pitch.

The min-derby between Nicosia sides OLYMPIAKOS and OMONOIA was finally played on Wednesday afternoon instead of Saturday following a torrential rainstorm which turned the MAKARIOS Stadium pitch into a huge lake and made it completely unplayable. Despite a mediocre performance, OMONOIA managed to take all three points thanks to a single but crucial goal by defender IOAKIM in the 56th minute. Man of the match was OLYMPIAKOS goalkeeper P.SAVVA who made some otustanding saves.

With a better second half performance, OMONOIA hit three against AEL. Two were by the top scorer, R.RAUFFMANN, both in the first half on 16th and 20th minutes, and KONNAFIS on 54th minute hit the post before KONTOLEFTEROS made absolutely sure by scoring OMONOIA'S third to make it 3-0 on 83rd minute.

One week away from the end of the season and OMONOIA beat ALKI 4-1 away, but their satisfaction at winning was dampened by the news of ANORTHOSIS' victory. In fact they went behind 1-0, which was the first goal conceded by keeper YIALLOURIS in eight games. RAUFFMANN then scored two to put OMONOIA ahead, and there were two more goals through CH.NIKOLAOU and MALEKKOS to put the result beyond doubt. OMONOIA also hit the woodwork four times.

At the MAKARIOS Stadium, 5,000 OMONOIA supporters gave their team a rousing end-of-season send-off in recognition of their fine performance which saw them finish the season on equal points with the champions. Their presence was also a "thank-you" to coach A.Michaelides, who will not be with the team next year. Like Anorthosis, OMONOIA also won 4-0. In their game against ETHNIKOS, KITANOV scored a hat-trick and RAUFFMANN hit the fourth.
