Sniff. Sigh. Sniff. "That smells so nice!"

"Courtney, you're so weird."

"She's not smelling the books again is she?"

"So what if I am? You don't know what you're missing out on." I put the book down and looked at my friends. We were sitting in the old school library, and I was looking at a large, glossy new book. My friends thought I was weird because whenever I found a new library book, or brought a new school book, I would open to the middle pages, and take a huge big whiff of the book. I only liked to do this with new books, because they were so nice and glossy. When I inhaled the smell, I felt like a little kid who had just been given a new colouring book, or a new picture book, and I can just remember how a new book used to smell. "Go on, try it," I egged my friends on. "It's weird, honestly." They shot each other a nervous glance, and my best friend took the book from me. She opened the book to the middle, put her nose to the pages, and squealed.

"Egh, it smells like plastic mixed with some sort of poisonous chemical," she said as she dropped the book.

"Well I'm definitely not smelling them then. Don't you know that plastic fumes are bad for you?" said my other friend.

"Oh don't be so pathetic. Just give me the book back, okay?" They handed the book back, and saw that I was hurt. My friends really thought I was weird.

"Sorry Court. We were only kidding."

"Yeah, I know. I'm not weird though, it's just one of those things."

"Yeah, I know," said my friend, as she started to chew her nails.

"Oh gross! Chewing your nails is so unhygienic," I said to her.

"Well, I suppose it's just one of those things," she said smiling.

"Yeah, I suppose it is," I said returning her smile. "I suppose it is."

There are good things and bad things about going to a small school. The good things are there are less people so we have more opportunitys to get into things and there is lots of room. A bad thing is that there is not as many people to play with. From Joshua Leckie

Soccer Match

A match played on a narrow pitch and just as usual Wellington College was tough as nails. They combined skill with physical toughness and through midfielder Simon Elliot, proved a handful. PNBHS took the lead after 35 minutes when Keith Findlay scored in a goal mouth scramble with the cowering Wellington College goalkeeper (who plays for National Mutual Miramar!) The crowd provided atmosphere as they rang out the Wellington College haka and this seemed to spur Wellington College on as they hit an equalizer that brought the house down. PNBHS were frustrated a being pinned up in their half for so long. In the end a tough draw was a fair result. The last three encounters have now ended in draws showing how hard this fixture is fought.
