Our
Judge: Barbra "Dog Drop" Schaefer
Some of her accomplishments:
2002, 2001, 2000 SHCA Working/Showing Trophy
Recipient.
This is awarded annually to recognize the versatility of the Siberian
Husky as a multi-purpose dog
designed for showing, obedience and working in harness.
2001 SHCA Lombard/Norris Award Recipient. For the best all-Siberian team
in sprint mushing.
2001 ISDRA Gold Medal Winner, 6 dog to unlimited class running an all
AKC registered Siberian team.
2002 ISDRA Silver Medal Winner, 6 dog to unlimited class running an all
AKC registered Siberian team.
Barbra has been owned by AKC registered Siberians
since 1987. It all started with a mixed Siberian as a
child, then two neutered retired Iditarod Alaskan Huskies. Barbra
started
in Obedience, then moved onto showing, always recreationally running her
dogs.
CH Fraka's Sparkl'n Jewel O'Kossok (co-owner). Sparky
earned BOS at the '94
National Specialty and was among the top Siberian bitches in the country
in '94 & '95. Sparky is the foundation of many of the dogs in her
kennel.
Most of her dogs are down from Fraka, Kaila, and Northome Kennels.
In 1991 Barbra attended her first Iditarod with a family friend of Jeff
King and
wound up caring for dropped dogs in Anchorage. For the next 9 Iditarods
she
worked in Anchorage, McGrath, Unalakleet, and Nome caring for dropped
dogs
earning the nickname Barbara "Dog Drop". During the next 10 Iditarods
she was
personally able to go over the conformation of over 1000 dropped
and
finishing dogs. 2000 was the last Iditarod where she volunteered so she
could
focus on mushing with her dogs.
In 1997 Barbra started mushing seriously and in fall of
1998 she attended the first Nelson/Stead Mushing Boot Camp and was
propelled into mushing.
