San Rafael Arcangel Mission was founded December 14, 1817. It is the twentieth in the chain of 21 California Missions. The mission was named for Saint Rafael the Archangel. San Rafael was famous for its hospital. Mission San Rafael Arcangel is a 1949 replica of the original mission, which was constructed in 1817. The building has been restored and includes a gift shop and small museum. The chapel is open to the public daily. |
