The Top Thirteen Ways that Daria would be Different if it were an Anime
Peter W. Guerin, one of Daria’s most prominent fan fiction writers, is known for his bizarre and often action-oriented stories, as well as his anime references. Some of his worst critics, in fact, have decried his alleged anime influence, often saying to him, "Daria isn’t anime!"
Really? No shit.
If these critics had said that "Daria isn’t action" or "Daria isn’t martial arts" as a criticism toward Guerin’s work, then I wouldn’t have that much to say. But not only is their comment obvious, it also comes across as being completely ignorant and stereotypical of what constitutes anime. As a fan of both Daria and anime, I really wish that these critics and reviewers would learn that anime is a medium for story-telling as opposed to a genre of fiction.
That having been said, here are the top thirteen ways Daria would be different if it were an anime:
13. Quinn would be voiced by Tiffany Grant instead of Wendy Hoopes.
12. Infrequent appearances by Sailor Stacy and Tuxedo Ted.
11. Jodie and Mack would refer to each other as "Jodie-chan" and "Mack-kun".
10. Sandi would have blue hair and get naked in a scene or two, as the blue haired girl always argues or fights with the red-head (Quinn) and gets naked in anime.
9. Kevin’s new hobby? Juggling Dragonballs.
8. Daria would work from a laboratory in sub-space as the most brilliant mind in the Galaxy.
7. The entire Fashion Club gets cute little Sailor Suits as their school uniforms.
6. Tiffany would have cute pink battle armor that works automatically and talk even slower than she does now.
5. A Day in the Life of Stacy would finally get what it was missing all along—big dumb robots. (Oh, wait! Never mind, I already did that.)
4. Fluffy would be able to talk, and his occupation would be "Pokemon Guide Cat."
3. Daria and Trent would hate each other in the beginning of the series, but be liplocked by the end.
2. Brittany wouldn’t be Brittany. She’d be Mahoshi from Tenchi Muyo! Everything else about her would be the same.
1. The animation would be done in Japan, not Korea.
Sounds like a series I’d watch. How about you?
