I have been a fan of Izzy's since he was first touted as the Mets star of the future. Though Jason has had some injury problems, and some freak accidents, he is looking great now. It was hard keeping up with Jason on the opposite coast, so never was I happier than when Izzy came to the A's! He became what the A's had been looking for since Dennis Eckersley...a dominating closer. Jason makes sure it's never dull when he's closing, and he fast became a fan favorite in Oakland! He was recognized this year as a 2000 AL All-Star and was on the mound when the A's clinched the AL West. Izzy ended the 2001 season by heling to lead the A's to the playoffs once again. He also cemented his role as one of baseballs best closers. In November of 2001, Izzy decided to sign with the St. Louis Cardinals as a free agent to be closer to his home and family. Best of luck in St. Louis Izzy. I will miss you. See you in SF!

In high school, Isringhausen starred in three sports at Southwestern High School, playing baseball, football and basketball. Izzy played three positions in high school, catcher, 3rd base and center field. He hit .340 as a senior, then played two seasons of center field at Lewis and Clark Community College in Illinois.
Then Izzy got his big break, but not the way he expected. After his 2nd season in community college, he went to a Mets tryout as an outfielder. After watching Izzy hit, run and throw, the Mets had an idea. "They told me I could hit pretty well and I played a decent center field," said Isringhausen, "but they said I was just too slow. Then they said they liked my arm and my throws from the outfield. That's when they told me, 'We have a new position for you.' " The Mets decided to fund "The Izzy Project," selecting Isringhausen in the 44th round of the 1991 draft.
