Bill and Janae's Pros and Cons on Dining in the Sahara---Desert or Dessert??

Now back in the good old Vegas Days, this gigantic auditorium that now houses the current Sahara Hotel Buffet was called "The Sahara Spacecenter"...... Yes...this is the same place we all enjoyed those happy years of the Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telephons on TV. What memories these walls contain. But there is no sign of the treasures that once graced this facility in years past.

But, alas, now the new owner of this legendary Vegas landmark has pursued a course that makes good use of this old army hangar that has seen better days. Now the masses can gather daily to partake of some pretty good grub 7 days a week. Certainly, there is no lack of space(no pun intended) for thousands to chow down at the same time. Extra room works for us! You see...the more room to be seated...the less time to stand in line. This may be the most redeeming feature of Mr. Bennett's Bountiful Buffet. It is a definite plus!

Now, the price is also a fairly good deal. $2.99-$3.99-$5.99 for a regular three-squares. We generally choose the lunch for $3.99 because the same entrees are offered and the entire staff seems to be much friendlier. As you grab that plate and shuffle down the line, you can be sure that your tummy will be full by the time you leave this Ex- SpaceCenter. And in this day of grocery prices, there is no possible way to cook up this much food for ten times the price of a lunch buffet. Take a bow Sahara...$3.99 is a bargain for lunch! We'll give you an "A-" on your lunch price. But when you raised your fee one extra dollar during the COMDEX convention, you displayed a very unhealthy serving of greed. Was it really worth a couple a thousand to bend your loyal patrons? Time will tell.

Okay, let's check out the food menu generally available. Beef Stew... that was excellent in October, but then someone removed the beef... It was so juicy that it melted in your mouth. Then one day it was brown juice sprinkled over carrots and potatoes...Come on guys...it WAS so good before! There is a wide selection of salads and the like. You've got your standard veggies that are above average in quality. And then there is a variety of other entrees like baked tuna, salmon, chicken, cabbage rolls, etc..... But even at the lunch meal the Sahara serves superior slices of turkey, ham and roast beef...and you can go back for seconds if the mood strikes your fancy. Oh, I must not forget to mention the large array of fresh pizzas, deli sub-sandwiches, an entire section of Chinese and an Italian Heaven with noodles, meatballs and garlic bread. And "Soup's Always On" with a good variety of mixtures for the palate. Those tempting desserts are spread out in grand style featuring cakes, pies, puddings and ice cream with all the fixings for a delicious sundae. There's fresh fruits and bread....well, just about everything you'd need for a decent meal. And this is one of the few Vegas buffets left that allows you to serve yourself all of the Pop, Orange Juice and Coffee you desire...Bravo! It's not gormet...but neither is the price. You get your money's worth in a day that nothing seems to be a bargain. Take a bow Sahara...we'll give you a "B-" on your food.

Now, let's talk about your help.....Some of your staff is very unhappy with their jobs. We will be kind enough not to call names. However, there are a few workers that deserve recognition for making the Cooksey honor roll. There may be other wonderful employees, but the following people are worthy of our personal compliments: Delia, Hegal, Pedro, Angel, Chung, Eladio, Burton , Ann, Tina#1, and Tina#2, Lynn, Walker, and several other nice workers that we only know by their smiling faces. These employees all get an "A" for doing an excellent job at the Sahara Buffet.

SO BILL AND JANAE GIVE THE SAHARA BUFFET AN OVERALL RATING OF......."B+" FOR LUNCH...AND "C-" FOR DINNER.

IT'S CERTAINLY WORTH A TRIP AROUND NOON THE NEXT TIME YOU'RE GETTING A LITTLE HUNGRY. BILL AND JANAE COOKSEY RECOMMEND THE SAHARA BUFFET!
