Rolling Stones Complete Next Album
The Rolling Stones have completed sessions for their next album, the follow-up to their 1997 album Bridges To Babylon.
According to billboard.com, The Stones have been recording in Paris with producer Don Was. Was produced 'Bridges to Babylon' as well as their 1994 album 'Voodoo Lounge', the 1995 live album 'Stripped' and the four new songs on their 2002 compilation album 'Forty Licks'.
Was has also worked with Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Bonnie Raitt and Paula Abdul as well as fronting his own band Was (Not Was) who had the hit 'Walk The Dinosaur' in 1988. The new album is due mid 2005.
Sumlin Surrounded By Stars On 'Shoes'-Keith Plays on new album
Blues veteran Hubert Sumlin is surrounded by such legends as Keith Richards and Eric Clapton on his new album, "About Them Shoes." The 13-track set is due Jan. 25 via Tone-Cool/Artemis and also features appearances by the New York Dolls' David Johansen, the Band's Levon Helm and Sumlin's longtime collaborator, harmonica player James Cotton.
The set features seven songs popularized by Muddy Waters, four by Willie Dixon, one penned by Carl C. Wright and one Sumlin original. Richards guests on Waters' "Still a Fool" and the new song "Little Girl, This Is the End," while Johansen lends a hand on Waters' "Walkin' Through the Park" and Dixon's "The Same Thing."
Keith has agreed to appear in the sequeal to the movie Pirates of the Caribbean with Johnny Depp. Filming is to begin in February. Keith will reportedly play Johnny's Father...this should be good!
JAGGER SAYS HE IS IMMERSED IN WRITING AGAIN
"I've been writing new songs for the Rolling Stones' next album. We just started, and it will be out sometime next year. We'll start recording in November," Jagger said.
"It should be good. I've been writing the last month for that, and I'm quite excited by what I've got so far."
Jagger said the Stones will be delivering some new music next month, with the release of a double CD live recording.
"One is unknown songs, and the other CD is familiar tunes," he said.

From Rollingstone.com: Jagger also addressed questions about the Stones, saying that drummer Charlie Watts, who has been battling throat cancer since the summer, is in good health: "He's had all these treatments and he was pronounced free and clear. So we're very glad about that." Meanwhile, the band is set to release Live Licks, a two-CD set of their 2002-2003 fortieth-anniversary tour, on November 2nd.
Jagger also revealed that he and guitarist Keith Richards have been writing songs for a new album. "The thrill is the same," Jagger said of performing with the band for more than forty years. "You never really know what's going to happen."

AUSTRALIA can claim another fashion luminary after designer Nick Morley debuted the first full collection of his Buddhist Punk label at New York's fashion week yesterday, sending three rock 'n' roll princesses down the runway in his funky threads.
Mick Jagger's daughter Elizabeth, 20, and Keith Richards' stunning progeny Theodora, 19, and Alexandra, 18, carried the shows theme – "sex, piracy and recalcitrance" – before a rock-star crowd that included Steve Tyler and Boy George.
Richards' wife, proud mother and former model Patti Hansen, was also on hand to see her teenage girls parading the label, which has grown over several years from distressed T-shirts to the array of silver-trimmed mini dresses, strappy leather skirts, skimpy swimsuits studs and sparkles, which was on show yesterday.
The men's collection featured chains galore, three-quarter-length pants with Pure Buddhist Punk and symbols of skulls printed on the seat – clobber designed to team with tattoos and plenty of attitude.
Originally from the Melbourne suburb of Mt Eliza, Morley, 36, is a true citizen of the world, and extremely well-connected.
He calls Bali home, but his label is based in the United Kingdom and he lived in New York for several years, which is why he chose the Big Apple to debut the collection. "It's rock 'n' roll, beach and dance floor," he said of his inspiration.
He has designed clothes for The Rolling Stones, U2 and celebrities such as Britney Spears, Orlando Bloom, Johnny Depp and Brad Pitt after switching to fashion from a background as a hair and makeup artist.
With friends such as The Divinyls' Chrissie Amphlett and The Cures' Ian Astbury, Morley was able to call on the two to perform at yesterday's show, held at the Maritime Hotels' Hiro Room in Manhattan's Chelsea district.

Stones Drummer Charlie Watts has Throat Cancer

Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts is being treated for throat cancer, a spokesman for the band said tonight.
Watts, 63, was mid-way through a course of radiotherapy at the Royal Marsden Hospital in Chelsea, south west London, near his home, he said.
The musician, whose records with the Stones have sold millions around the world, was diagnosed after going into hospital in June.
Watts, who has not smoked since the 1960s when the rock band shot to fame, was said to be in “good form” and has been walking to hospital to be treated.
His bandmates have been informed and he has been supported by wife Shirley during the six-week course of treatment, of which he has now completed four weeks.
The spokesman said: “Having been diagnosed with throat cancer following a minor operation in June Charlie Watts is reaching the end of radiotherapy treatment.
“He is expecting to make a full recovery and start work with the rest of the band later in the year.”
His treatment has not interfered with any tour or recording plans for the group, who have been “relaxing between work commitments”.

Keith Richards Leads Tribute to Old Pal Parsons

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - For Keith Richards, it was "another goodbye to another good friend" as the Rolling Stones guitarist headlined a pair of Los Angeles-area tribute concerts over the weekend to Gram Parsons, the late country rock pioneer who was too much of a hellraiser even for the Stones.
Norah Jones, Steve Earle, Lucinda Williams, Dwight Yoakam and John Doe were also among the performers at "Return to Sin City: A Tribute to Gram Parsons," which took place on Friday at the Santa Barbara Bowl and on Saturday the Universal Amphitheater near Hollywood.
The event was organized by Parsons' daughter, Polly, who said she hoped to raise between $50,000 and $70,000 for the Musicians' Assistance Program (MAP), which helps people in the music industry get treatment for drug and alcohol problems.
Her father, who died of a tequila and morphine overdose in 1973, aged 26, was a trust-fund kid from Florida with a love of country music. When he came to Los Angeles to be a rock star in the late 1960s, he brought his southern stylings to the Byrds for one album before co-founding the Flying Burrito Brothers. He also recorded two solo albums, but never enjoyed much commercial success.
Perhaps most importantly, he became a trusted member of the Rolling Stones' inner circle, renowned for being able to supply the band with copious amounts of drugs. He particularly bonded with Richards, who told reporters backstage on Saturday that Parsons taught him the "finer points of country music .... the difference between Bakersfield and Nashville, for example. Because I didn't know there was one."
The extent of Parsons' uncredited influence on such Stones songs as "Wild Horses," "Country Honk" and "Torn and Frayed" has been a matter of debate for years.
"When you're playing with somebody for a few years and you do a lot, things rub off that you're not really aware of immediately," Richards said. "It's not sort of a matter of, like, 'I nicked that lick' .... It's like osmosis, and we osmosed a lot!"
The Flying Burrito Brothers managed to cover "Wild Horses" before the Rolling Stones released it in 1971, and Richards led a group rendition of the ballad near the conclusion of Saturday's concert. He began his set with two tunes from Parsons' solo career, singing a duet with jazz diva Norah Jones on the Nashville standard "Love Hurts" and then performing "Hickory Wind" by himself.
Jones, who announced that the shows were "the best two nights I've had in forever, since I was five years old," had the most time on stage, also focusing on Parsons' solo work. She performed "Streets of Baltimore," provided a showcase for former Parsons guitarist James Burton on "Cry One More Time," and took to the piano for "She." Besides Burton, the house band also included another Parsons alumnus, Al Perkins, on pedal steel.
Steve Earle introduced some political commentary by declaring that the Flying Burrito Brothers' draft notice song "My Uncle" would have sounded outdated a few years ago, but was particularly relevant these days. He was also the only performer to acknowledge Parsons' many co-writers, in this case, Chris Hillman, who played with Parsons in both the Byrds and the Flying Burrito Brothers.
For his part, former X punk rocker John Doe hailed the Musicians' Assistance Program as "a really great thing for all of us who get high."

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (AP) - Blues fans at a small Connecticut club were treated to a surprise performance by Rolling Stones legend Keith Richards. The guitarist jumped on stage at The BoxCar on Friday night for some off-the-cuff music with 89-year-old David Honeyboy Edwards and Rocky Lawrence.
"That's right, this is my neighborhood, too. At least part of the time," Richards, who owns a home in nearby Weston, told the crowd.
Lawrence, of West Haven, was ecstatic.
"When the three of us were up there, I was having so much fun I forgot there was even an audience there," he said.
Richards signed a Telecaster guitar for the bar's owner, Kevin Kiekel. It is displayed in a case behind the bar.
"Half of my dream has been fulfilled already," Kiekel said. "Now I want to get Eric (Clapton) in here."
Keith plays the Wiltern Theater tonight in LA in an all star tribute with Willie Nelson called Outlaws & Angels. An
all-star line-up will come together for the third year in a row to perform in
the 2-hour telecast to air exclusively on USA Network on Memorial Day, Monday,
May 31st at 9:00 pm (ET/PT).

Johnny Depp reportedly wants Rolling Stones rocker Keith Richards to appear in the Pirates Of The Caribbean: Curse Of The Black Pearl sequel - as his father.
The hunky star famously based his character, Jack Sparrow, on the aged rocker in the celebrated film, and wants to pay tribute to Richards by landing him a role in the follow-up.
A source says, "Johnny was slightly embarrassed by all the praise for Pirates because he was really just being Keith.
"A good way of thanking Keith would be to get him to do a walk-on in the sequel."
Keith inducts ZZ Top into Hall of Fame
The Stones will meet this month in Paris to discuss plans for a future tour and possible album release. The Stones are reportedly interested in getting back on the road in Fall 2004 or early 2005.
Keith will be at the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame Induction awards in order to induct ZZ Top. The ceremony will take place March 15 at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York, and will be taped for a VH1 special that will premiere March 21 on the music channel.

While vacationing at the ultra-exclusive Parrot Cay resort in Turks and Caicos, where Richards owns a home, "He spent every day at the bar drinking like a fish," a spy for the gossip column Page Six reports. "He looks like something washed up from the ocean, but he was charming and chatted with everybody."
But when a lifelong fan who "talked music with him for an hour" corrected him on a piece of reggae trivia, a red-faced Richards blurted (slurred?) out, "Well, who the (expletive) are you?" and ended the conversation abruptly. The fan apologized the next day.

The Rolling Stones SARS benefit concert performed in Toronto in July will be released on DVD early 2004
The Stones performed the show in front of an estimated audience of 450,000 people to help bring confidence back to the city. Toronto was one of the areas hit hardest by the SARS epidemic.
The show featured various acts including Justin Timberlake and AC/DC, both of who performed later with The Stones as well as their on own set.
Timberlake and Mick Jagger sang The Stones classic 'Miss You' as a duet. Malcolm and Angus Young of AC/DC repeated the B.B. King blues song 'Rock Me Baby', originally performed in Sydney at the Enmore Theatre in February 2003.
The Toronto show DVD will feature all 13 performers from the day so it is unsure whether the Stones set will be complete at this stage.
