The hook is a unique weapon. It started as a concept. There were many tools which were simply a hook with a handle on it. When Marshal Yu Fei developed the concept (wasn't there), he added a hook onto almost every weapon he had access to. He made the hook spears, hook swords, his jinn had hooks on it, hook axe, and many more. His whole army was trained in the use of the hook. The hook allows you to trap an adversary without exposing yourself. The hook also allows an attack to cause damage in a direction and at an angle which is difficult to guard against. The hook concept was developed in mantis as a physical weapon seperate from other techniques and Tiger style (tiger hook swords) developed it most fully as a weapon. While armies in the west used the hook on weapons, it never became as popular a concept.
