The Kama is a farm tool. Made popular by ninja movies it is still a valuable Chinese weapon. Obviously a farm tool, It needs no modification for fighting. It uses short strokes to damage the opponent and I can only guess that the lanyard was used for climbing. I take them off every tool I have because they catch on everything. I can only assume the situation would be the same in a fight. If it hoses me when I have the time to do things right then what happens in a panic situation. Any trickes the rope allows could also be done with a ring attatched to the end. The techniques can be used from any range and most often take a hooking motion and turn it into a cut. In my experience, the kama are used like small hatchets. Maybe for people who do Bonsaii? Landscapers?
