Introduction

This is not an official homepage, but for a ballerina being one of the best things to come out of England, a homepage is much deserved. Though many would say that she does not have sexual appeal as a dancer, it is undeniably so that she is one of the most beautiful things on this planet. Her innocent face and perfectly graceful movement were sure to make her the eye catcher. Standing at five foot nine, she is tall for a ballerina, making partner finding quite difficult. And although having been in the lime light for some time, she is still quite young (her rival, Sylvie Guillem, being ten years older). Darcey's forte is in the classical ballet, and some would argue that she is fixed in this type of role, however she does play it at the highest of levels. To find out about her performances, go to the Royal Ballet homepage at The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.

History

Born in London, she was a late starter to ballet at the age of thirteen. She studied at the Royal Ballet School. In 1986 she won the Prix de Lausanne. Then in 1987 she joined Salders Wells Royal Ballet, where in 1988, at the age of nineteen, she was recognized by MacMillan and then joined the Royal Ballet as a soloist. On her opening night in The Prince of the Pagodas playing the part of Rose, she made history as the Royal Ballet's youngest ever principal. In 1990 she received the Evening Standard Ballet Award and the Variety Club Award for Most Promising Newcomer. In 1995 she was awarded an OBE.
