My 484 Cadillac engine project:

Here is the bare block after much work was done at the machine shop. (Stapleton's Engines Elmira, NY)

The decked block and bores that are now larger.

The crank has been ground .010 under and has been poloished and balanced along with the pulley, flywheel, rods and pistons.

New ARP main studs, supplied by MTS are installed for increased bottom end strength.

New Federal Mogul pistons installed on the balanced rods.

New ported and polished "Gold" oil pump supplied by CMD. It is claimed to have 22% more flow!

The heads have been milled down to raise the compression from an actual 8.1:1 to 9:1.

Here you can see some more of the port work done to the bowls, and the chamber volume that was 72cc is now 67cc with the milled heads.

The air ports have been filled and the bowls have been smoothed along with the ports, for increased flow.

The stock 79' TH-400 with a shift kit recieved a cleaning, new gaskets and a paint color to match the engine. But after re-installing it and breaking in the engine, I find out the pump had died! So it was removed and replaced by a rebuilt TH-400 with the same internals and torque converter. I guess the 484 was too much power for the 119K mile trans. The shop said it had marginal clutches anyways.

I have installed the 484 and it looks great! Pics will come soon! The engine bay has been degreased and painted gloss black, so it looks like a new car! The 484 has been broken in, and after much tuning and a rebuilt trans, I was able to drive the car once again. It had been off the road for almost two years for this project that slowly came together! The engine still needs some tuning, but has tons more power already that the little 425 did! I have dual exhaust coming off iron manifolds from a 76' 500 that flow better than the 79' 425 manifold. The gas flows through dual 2.25 inch Dynomax mufflers, and has a nice big block V-8 sound!
