Looking upon Life
by Caél Ó Maolain
The oak that grows beside the stream Reaches high toward the sky. But you remember, as if a dream, Its youth and yours and gently cry. The years flew by like a summers day That's drawing now toward evening. Looking back you long to say This loneliness you are now feeling. For love had left some time before An empty heart, an open door. Your spirit's growing tired and worn And death looks more appealing. Your eye still shines a vibrant gleam, The heart desires to fly. But time does change ones self esteem When the body does belie. For if you could, you'd find a way To give this life new meaning. Make your life more worth the stay, Return your numbed souls feeling. But age does not a life restore And worry still ages you more. Between now and eternal things you're torn And death looks more appealing. The ones you passed your heart-loved dreams Now neglect to even come by. Their love and happiness do seem To have gone away and left you dry. And when you're put into the clay You figure no tears will be streaming. Only acting out the parts they play And divide the spoils so willing. So looking to a brighter shore You look to things that are in store. Acting now bedraggled, forlorn And death looks more appealing. The thanks you gave to Heavens beam That needn't ask an alibi, Lets you see your part in the scheme. You reminisce with a sigh. Though time is near to go away Upon that train forever steaming. For peace to come you bow and pray Because life this way is unfulfilling. You see the Earth in bitter gore And ask yourself just what its for. Listening long for Gabriel's horn And death looks more appealing. Then standing by the Pearly Gate You see your life the way you came And beg that it not be too late For those who're acting just the same. That'll bring the world's sure demise As wisdom quietly dies.
