I Swear
Author’s Note: My first and probably only attempt at a songfic. (Disclaimer: This song is not mine...neither are the MR characters. But we all knew that.) I wrote this ages ago, when I first saw the last two episodes, but I never typed it up. I’m not sure why. Anywayz, now that I have I hope you like it! (And, don’t worry, the next Thorn story *is* coming...as soon as I get over my extreme laziness. ^__^;;;)
//I swear by the moon and the stars in the sky//
Big Blue stared down at her as she lay there, her breath coming in short, painful gasps.
“...Pixie may become a Lost Disk.”
The Jill’s voice twisted like a knife in his heart. He couldn’t bear the thought of her dying...
Each breath she took stabbed at him as he heard the pain she must be in. She looked so helpless without her wings...And she was slipping away from him with each passing moment.
//And I swear like the shadow that’s by your side//
Big Blue tore his eyes away from her, looking up at the Jill.
“Is there a shrine nearby?”
//I see the questions in your eyes//
“Don’t do this...” Genki was standing at the unlocking controls, tears in his eyes.
//I know what’s weighing on your mind//
Big Blue only looked at him, a slight smile on his face. “I’m ready.”
//You can be sure I know my heart//
It hadn’t even been a decision. He was glad to give his life for hers...
“Thank you,” he said as his friends activated the shrine. He looked down at her one last time, knowing that she would soon be whole again...then only knew darkness.
//’Coz I’ll stand beside you through the years//
“What happened?” Pixie was confused. She remembered being tortured by Moo...losing her wings...and now she was in a shrine, but something was...different. She looked down at herself, and suddenly saw why. “My body has changed...but that could only happen if someone had fused...”
She looked up at the people around her, anxiously scanning the tear-stained faces. But a part of her already knew what had happened. Who else would sacrifice everything...for her?
“Where’s Big Blue?! Where did Big Blue go?!”
Then they told her. Big Blue had fused with her, to save her life.
//You’ll only cry those happy tears//
“Big Blue...”
She looked down, and for the first time in years let the tears flow freely.
//And though I make mistakes, I’ll never break your heart//
“How could he throw his life away?!”
//And I swear by the moon and the stars in the sky//
“You’ve got it all wrong.”
//I’ll be there//
Pixie stared at the monster who had spoken.
//I swear like a shadow that’s by your side//
“Big Blue lives on inside of you.”
//I’ll be there//

//And I swear//
Genki stood there, unbelieving, as each of his friends declared that they would fuse with the Phoenix...cease to exist in order to beat Moo.
//I’ll give you everything I can//
They had given him everything...*everything*...and now he gave his all to them. To defeat Moo, to revive the Phoenix...
//I’ll build your dreams with these two hands//
...and to destroy his friends.
//We’ll hang some memories on the walls//
Each in turn said goodbye to him, and disappeared...leaving only memories behind.
//And when just the two of us are there//
Mocchi was the only one left, still standing beside him.
//You won’t have to ask if I still care//
“Mocchi...don’t you go, too...” Genki got down on his knees, hugging his best friend, trying to hold on to him.
//’Coz as time turns the page, my love won’t age at all//
“I love you, Genki.”
The little monster hugged him back, then faded away into nothing.

Pixie hovered in mid-air with Falcon and his pirate Dragons. They had to hold off Moo long enough for the Phoenix to be revived.
//I swear like the shadow that’s by your side//
~Here we go, Blue~ she thought. Pixie felt an answering swell within her, and the Big Bang she had been charging grew even brighter.
//I’ll be there//
Then the Phoenix rose in a burst of flame, beating back Moo. In the end, the two legends destroyed each other, freeing all the baddies and turning all the Lost Disks to Mystery Disks again – but doing nothing to restore Big Blue.
//For better or worse, till death do us part//
Suddenly, Genki felt strong winds about him, plucking him off the Dragon he was riding and throwing him backwards. The last he saw of the MR world were the faces of Holly and Pixie, calling out to him and staring in shock as he fell through a portal of light.
//I’ll love you with every beat of my heart//
Genki opened his eyes in an alleyway, back in the city he had come from. It was raining, just as it had been in his nightmare of coming home.
~Was it all just a dream?~ Genki thought. He looked down at his shoes, the ones Holly had bought for him in the monster world. It hadn’t been a dream
Genki smiled wanly, but sadness remained in his eyes. “I did it,” he said. “I actually did it.”
//And I swear//
He started running, trying to regain a semblance of his usual energy and cheer. But as he ran, his thoughts were flooded with memories of the friends he had left behind, and tears began to stream down his face. After a few moments he stopped dead, collapsing in a junkyard.
//I swear by the moon and the stars in the sky//
“What’s the use?” he asked himself ruefully. “I’m nothing without my friends! And they all said I was the bravest person they had ever met...”
“Genki,” said a voice, and the boy looked up.
//I’ll be there//
Holly was sitting on top of an old car. Hare, Mocchi, Golem, Suezo, and Tiger were also scattered around the yard, watching him and smiling.
//I swear like the shadow that’s by your side//
“Cheer up, kid,” Hare said. “Tears don’t suit you.”
Each in turn offered encouragement.
“We’ll always be with you, Genki.”
//I’ll be there//
“Just think of us whenever the wind blows,” said Tiger.
//For better or worse, till death do us part//
The rain gradually stopped, and the sun came out, his friends vanishing as its rays touched them. Genki stood up, a bewildered look on his face.
//I’ll love you with every beat of my heart//
“Yeah!” Genki’s face broke into a smile, and he started running again, this time truly seeming to be happy. The wind ruffled his hair, sending a swirl of cherry blossoms into the bright blue sky.
//I swear, I swear, oh I swear.//
