Rev. Orlando G. Fye, our brother in Christ Jesus and fellow servant in the Gospel ministry of the Evangelical Church, son of George and Sarah Davis Fye, was born at Salix, Cambria County,Pa., February 15, 1872, and left the body to be with the Lord, from Portage, Pa. Saturday Nov. 28, 1931, aged 59 yrs, 9 mo. and a3 days. Brother Fye was converted under the joint labors of Revs. Samuel Milliron and C.E.Mccauley at the age of 14 years, and united with the Evangelical Church at Salix. He Served in this local church in the capacity of Class Leader, Sunday School Superintendent and Teacher, Steward, Trustee and Member of the Church Building Committee. His call to the Gospel ministry came soon after his conversion, he records in his biographical sketch, but on account of timidity, lack of education, and a crippled father who needed his help, he tried to ignore the call, but it finally became so insistent the he yielded and never did he doubt the call. On Sept 16, 1903 at the session of the Pittsburgh Conference held in South Fork, under the presidency of the Sainted Bishop H. B. Hartzler, DD, Brother Fye was licensed to preach the same Gospel which had saved him some seventeen years before. He began his active ministry in 1904 and recieved his ordination ranks and itinerancy in regular order and in due time. Brother Fye traveled the following charges without loss of any time: Johnstown, 1904-1908; Somerset Circuit, 1908-1911, Johnstown Grove Ave. 1911-1913; Salisbury and Rockwood, 1913-1916; Johnstown Fairfield Ave. 1916-1921; Johnstoen Vickroy Ave., 1921-1927 and Portage 1927-1931. He was reared on his fathers farm, obtaining hi early education in the public schools supplemented by a year at Albright College. Hence, with but scant educational equipment, God called this man into the Gospel Ministry, and he, realizing his own inabilty and great need of help, threw himself wholly upon the Lord, then in the strength and wisdom of God he preached a clear Gospel of repentance, faith and conversion to be followed by its sequel, a clean, upright Christian life, an example of which he lived without a stain during his entire ministerial-pastoral life. he averaged thirty conversions per annum during his twenty-seven years of active pastoral work, proof conclusive that God was with him, and was using him. He was somewhat of a retiring disposition, yet never fearful on the pulpit, and by his quiet men he drew to himself within and without the church many stauch friends. February 10, 1910 Rev. O.G. Fye united in holy wedlock to Jennie McDonald, daughter of John and Maudilla Allison McDonald of Lovely, Bedford County, Pa. by Rev. J.C. Powell. To this union were four children: Ethel, Paul,Vesta, and Verna, all of whom with the widow survive. Three brothers and three sisters also survive: William and Frank of Salix and John of Oakland, Mrs Grant Custer of Geistown, Mrs. E.A. Jones of Salix and Miss Ella Fye of BRookesville, Kentucky. The funeral services, held Dec. 1, were in charge of the pastor, Rev. F.E.Hetrick, assisted by Revs. G.A. Collin, District Superintendent, WW Elrick, EW Rishell, BE Coleman, WM Peffer and the writer. Rev. Smith of Portage United Brethren Church spoke for the local ministerium. Twenty-six ministers were present, attesting the high esteem in which this good man was held. Interment was made in Grandview Cemetery, Johnstown, Pa.

SMAY VICTIM OF WHITE PLAQUE Salix-Feb 9-Mrs. Jennie Fye Smay, wife of John W. Smay of Adams Twp., died at her home near here at 2 o'clock this morning of tuberculosis. Mrs, Smay was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Fye, deceased, and is survived by her husband and five children. O.G. Fye, of Husband, Somerset County a minister in the United Evangelical Church; John of Dale; Frank of Richland Twp.; William of Adams Twp.; Ida wife of Frank Custer, of Richland Twp.; Carrie, wife of Edward jones, of the Seventh Ward, Johnstown and Ella Fye, who makes her home with O.G. Fye at Husband, are brothers and sisters of the deceased.
