Will of Ellys Crymes

In the name of God Amen, the fyve and twentith daie of Julye in the yeare of or. Lord god (onethousand fyve hundred eightie. I Ellys Crymes of Bucklande in the Countie of Devon gentleman beinge of wholle and perfecte healthe of bodye and mynde (thankes be given to Allmightie god) Doe make declare and ordeigne this my present last will and testament in manner and fourme followinge (viz) ffirst and principally I commend my soule to Allmightie god my maker, and to our Lord Jesus Christ my Redemer, by the onlie meritts of whose precious deathe and passion I trust to have full remissyon of all my synnes, my bodye to be buried wthin the parishe churche of Buckland neere my Seate in the quier or channcell yf god doe call my to his mercy in any place wthin fortie miles of the same pishe. of Buckland. Imprimis I give and bequeath unto my brother Thomas Crymes and his wief and John Hawes either of them a blacke gowne of Twentie Shillinges the yarde, and any of my brothers children blacke clothe at the discression of my exeguntors. Item I give and bequeath Twentie poundes to be given and distributed by my exeguntores amongest ffourty of the poorest psons householders wthin the parishe of Buckland at twoe severall tymes wthin one yeare. Item I give unto every of my godchildren ffyve shillinges. Item I give and bequeath unto every of my men viz John Dunderidge, John Edgecombe, John Rowe, John Northen, John Hele, John Stonden, Humfry Caborne and William Spurwell every of them a blacke coate and twentie shillinges in monney, and Rawe and Ellys Reape lykewise blacke clothe and twentie shillinges apeece in monney. Item I give unto Richard Stonden Robert Osworth, William Yardle and every of them a blacke cloake of Twelve shillinges the yarde and Twentie shillinges in monney. Item I will that my sonnes William and Philip (very shortlye after they have accomplished the full age of one and twentie yeares) shall make a joynte or severall Release or releases unto my brother or his executors by thadvyce of some learned Counseller (for one hundred threescore poundes bequeathed to them and other of my children deceassed) by my late ffather, which I have received & bestowed muche more in Lande to their use, and then to receive my bond wherein I am bounde to my brother for his chardge against my children. Item as touching the disposition of all and singuler my Messauge Landes Tenementes & heriditamts. which I have purchased I will dispose give and bequeath unto Philip Crymes my younger sonne all my Lands Tenemts. and heriditaments with thappurtences in the pishe of Meavye in the Countie of Devon which I late purchased of Henrye Edmond Bonvile Esquire, and alsoe all my Landes and Tenements wthin the Manor and _____ of Buckland called Lake, Elforde, Chubterwood and Merbes, to have and to hold to the said Philip and to the heires of his bodye lawfully to be begottenn. And for default of such issue to my sonne William and his heirs. Item I will that as well all my barton Lande Tenements and heriditaments which I purchased of Sir Richard Grenevile now knight as also all my Monors of Hullam and all my Landes in the pishe of Plymowth and St. Budeyoe with thappurtences shall descend and come unto William Crymes my sonne and heire apparente and to his heires in fee simple serceid: And all my other Landes Tenements and heriditaments that I have as well by descent and by bequest from my father I will shall descend and come unto William my sonne and heire apparent according to the Lawes and Statutes of this Realme and my fathers last will and testamt. Item as touchinge the Customery Landes and Tenements in Islington that was my ffathers which by agreement betwixt my brother and mee must comme to me and my heires after the deathe of Thomas Chester I will shall descend to bothe my sonnes accordinge to the Custome there, And lykewise I will that the Customary Landes that I and my brother hadd in Suffolk nere Hadley, whereof I have bought my brothers pte., shall descend unto my elder or younger sonne or bothe accordinge to the custome there, And of this my last will and testament I make and ordeiyne my twoe sonnes William and Philip Crymes my exeguntores, To whome I give the residue of all my goods and chattells not before bequeathed And I doe appointe for the Overseers of this my last will and Testament my trustie freindes Richd. Stonden and Robert Osworthe and for their paines I will they shall have paide them fourtie shillinges apeece Written by me Ellys Crymes
