Will of Thomas Friend

By the permission of Almighty God, I Thomas Friend of Annatwalls in the Parish of Alston and County of Cumberland, being of sound and disposing Mind and Memory, praised be God for the same, Do make and Ordain, this my last Will and Testament in Manner following (that is to say) First I give and Bequeath unto my Beloved Wife Elizabeth Friend, all my Bedding, Linen & Household Furniture whatsoever, to be at Her own Disposal, I also give & Bequeath to my said Wife one third part of my Estate at AnnatWalls, or an Annuity, or yearly Rent Charge of fifteen Pounds p Annum, with a Dwelling House, to be in lieu of Dowery and Right of Thirds, out of my said Estate, yearly and every Year, During Her Natural Life, to be paid as two Equal payments in the year, I also give & Bequeath unto my son Joseph Friend a yearly sum of Thirteen Pounds p Annum, yearly and Every year. During his Natural Life, out of my said Estate as Annat Walls, to be paid at two Equal payments in the year, I also give & Bequeath unto my son Thomas Friend one Guinea, I also give and Bequeath unto my Daughter Mary Dickinson, One Hundred Pounds, and also to my Daughter, Sarah Todd One Hundred Pounds, also to my Daughter Elizabeth Wallis One Hundred Pounds, to be paid twelve months after my Decease, out of my said Estate at AnnatWalls, I also further give & Bequeath unto my said Daughters Mary, Sarah and Elizabeth, Each of them a further Sum of Sixty Pounds at the Decease of my Wife, to them, Heirs & Assignes, in the next place, I give and Bequeath unto my son John Friend his Heirs & Assigns for Ever a Dwelling House and Shop in the Town of Alston and also my Estate at AnnatWalls, His Heirs & Assignes, But Subject - Nevertheless unto, Charged and Chargable with the payments of such Legacies as is above mentioned, and do nominate and appoint my said son John Friend Executor of this my said Will, ordering that he Receive all my Just Debts, and also Pay all my Debts & Funeral Expenses, hereby Revoking all Former Wills by me made, In Witness whereof I have hereunto Set my Hand and Seal this Twenty fifth Day of February One Thousand seven hundred and ninety seven. Signed, Sealed, published & declared Thomas Friend by the said Testator Thomas Friend, to be his last Will & Terstament, in the presence of us, who in his presence & in the presence of each other, have Subscribed our names as Witness hereto, William Walton John Walton Rowland Walton
