Brick Wall Ancestor of the Month, John B. Schneider
John B. Schneider lived in Indiana from 1860 to 1900 when he died in Acton, Indiana. He was born Dec. 1825 in Grunbach, Bavaria. He immigrated to the US in approx. 1848. He lived in Pennsylvania for a while. The family was in Pike Township on the 1860 census. The 1870 census shows them in Acton, Franklin Township. The 1900 census showed John had married Barbary (Sauer?) 50 years before. So far, no success in locating where he came into the states, where he filed his immigration papers(if he did) or where he married Barbary. John may have had a relative living down the road from him in Acton as there is a Michael there.
John's children were:
Michael C.C. Schneider m. Anna Marie Mayer Margaret Schneider - single
Mary Schneider m. John Schmidt Katherine Schneider m. George Faulstich Christ Schneider m. Pearl Hauck John Schneider ? Anna Schneider m. George Filbeck George Schneider m. Lena Kaffader? Louis(Lewis) Schneider ?
Katherine's obituary says the family was among the first to settle in Acton. So far, no success in locating where John and Barbary were buried or find any obituary for them. Any ideas are welcome. These ancestors may have been Catholic. John's descendant hasn't located a church in the area but her ggrandfather was married at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. If anyone recognizes these names, or has some ideas as to where local records might be kept, please contact Pat Stebnicki .

Maybe you've read about this in the paper, or saw it on the evening news...after 30 years, dog tags of servicemen killed in Viet Nam have been located in Ho Chi Minh City, purchased, and brought back home to the United States with the goal of reuniting the tags with surviving family members. To view the list of names and ID numbers on the dog tags, please go to:
