I've posted solutions to the review problems and several others from
past homework.  On the web review page, I had mistakenly given 9-49 and
9-64 as two of the review problems  Actually, I meant 10-49 and 10-64.
I went ahead and posted the solutions for both 9-49 and 10-49 since both
are good problems.  However, 9-64 will probably not be helpful.

I've set up the project directories.  In order to make it easy for you
to move your project files into the new directory, we'll do that
together when we meet today or tomorrow.

I forgot to give you the number of possible points for each problem on
the test.  Problems 3 and 6 are each worth 3 points.  The rest are 6
points each.  I'll post a key tomorrow.

About next Tuesday, let's do this.  If you submit the first draft of
your report by Monday at 8 PM, you can have Tuesday as comp. time.
However, you do have to check in at the beginning of class Tuesday to
collect any comments I may have about your draft.  If you don't submit
the first draft by Monday at 8, then you'll work on that during
Tuesday's class and it will be due by 5 PM Tuesday.

About Tejas' question about linking to drawings made in other programs.
I said this was OK but I need to qualify that.  Make sure that the file
format is a universal one (like bmp, gif, etc) so that I'll be able to
view the drawing.

Here's another option that for some odd reason didn't cross my mind this
morning.  If you're a web whiz and prefer to do your report as a
collection of web pages and links, that's great.  That, in fact, will
make it easy to publish it to the web.

Date: Fri, 4 Dec 1998 13:40:45 -0500
At 2 PM Saturday, all the student files on the Physics Server
(physics1.ncssm.edu) will be moved to the web server
(phywww1.ncssm.edu).  The only difference is that when you open an FTP
connection, you open it to phywww1.ncssm.edu.  Your username and
password will stay the same, and all your files will be intact.

We're making the change at this time, because we're upgrading the old
Physics Server to a new machine.  Until the upgrade is complete, the
Physics Server will be out of commission.

Subject: Our Project

Dr. Winters,

Maritza and I certainly hope you haven't looked at our paper just
yet--we have two folders in our Project directory.  There is one called
Project_HTML, and the other Project_HTML2.  Please disregard the
Project_HTML folder and use the other one as the folder containing our
rough draft.  We were unable to delete this folder using the (former)
PhysicsMM computer, and it was close to 8 so we couldn't delete it in
time.
Our rough draft begins with the file titlepage.htm, and we know
that if you use Word to open this file, you can step through the paper
fine.  I'm not sure whether you can step through the paper or even
access the first page using Internet Explorer, however.
Also, we were having trouble saving a file from the PHYSG computer
(I don't know why we keep deciding to use the same troublesome
computer).  The file contains our interpretation of results, and any
links in our paper leading to this file probably won't work.  If this
happens, you can open the file directly--it was saved under iodata.htm.

Hopefully that will be all the quirks in our paper!

as they're turned in by that time.

I need to have a response from everyone on this question.  We usually
allow 2.5 hours for physics exams.  However, we have to finish by the
regularly scheduled time of 3:30 PM on our exam day, since some students
will need to catch rides.  We can start half an hour early if everyone
agrees.  That would be 1:00 PM.  Send me email to let me know whether or
not that's OK with you.  Again, I must have a response from everyone.
Please reply immediately.

PH210 Students,

If you're turning in AP problem solutions for the web, be sure to do
this by the end of the day.  I'm scanning the solutions that have
already been turned in and will post them on the web sometime this
evening.

IMPORTANT!  Do the following to insure that you receive credit for the
AP problems solutions that you wrote.  (5 points per complete solution +
5 more if solution was written up for the web)

If you turned in written solutions for the web or if you showed me other
solutions on Friday that you didn't write up for the web, email me a
complete list of all those problems with the numbers as given on the
web.  Indicate which ones were written for the web.  Some people didn't
put their names on their solutions!

Your lab books will be ready by noon.

PH210 students,

11 people have responded saying that 1:00 PM is OK for starting the
physics exam.  I need to hear from the 12th.  Someone, please remind
Swapna to respond.

Be sure to have your physics books with you for the exam.  You'll need
to check them in and you may need them for reference.

I've added some solutions to the AP problems on the web.  I'd like to
add more.  If you're working on any, see me ASAP.   In case there's
confusion, the credit you receive for these extra problems counts as an
extra (or possibly substitute) homework grade.  It doesn't count as exam
credit!

Last year's multiple choice exam questions are available for study.
I've put a copy for each of you in the box outside my office.  Please
take the copy with your name on it.  I will post answers with brief
solutions on the web Wednesday or sooner.
