Note: Space is being updated all the time. It is not a finished game. I try to update as often as possible. If you are not sure some things apply to the game at the moment ask in the forums or your allies. Thanks for understanding and thanks to mcoulton for all his work.

Beginner Hints & Tips

Never give up, there is a learning period where you will die. Learn from it!

Economy and Growth first (build ships later)

Expand fast (colonise everything you can)

Build mines (for ore) only on planets with 75% or more ore concentration (just to start with)

Make sure you can defend what you have before you take more (know your neibours)

Communicate! Alliences are everything! Can NOT go solo!

Specialise in one weapon type (its cheaper and more efficient, doesn't matter which one)

Watch what other people do on the MAP Mode and learn from good players

Watch how your enemy kills you and use those ship designs and tactics

Do not build research labs until you are producing at least 180 ore and prod.

Read all the guides and strats made for newbies in the forum

Know the manual and know what's wrong in the manual, many mistakes.

The game starts slow in the beginning, but as your production grows it speeds up crazy

You need around 10 destroyers to kill a starting space station

There is a nano requirement for all ships, check the manual, know them (22 nano for uniques)

Use the autobuild if you are not that active, if you are active build manually the queues

Advanced Hints & Tips

You are not getting to be serious about the game and are aiming for at least top 20 if not top 5 spots. There are very many little things which give the veterans a big edge against newbies. Here are some ways of getting to know them

In Gal 51 site there is a prediction by Sunzi - read it to choose planets properly

The initial labs - does NOT matter what you do with em unless you have a specific strat

Be fast - send scouts. Once they are there send em elsewhere. Do NOT let other claim your potential systems

Get an allience fast, but very careful. You want to do this once and not have to quit and join all the time

You can use allience scouts 4x2=8 to attack and claim emeny planets even if he has a destroyer there

Be true and honest to your allies, people remember until they die!

Expand like your life depended on it and never stop building buildings unless absolutely neccessary

Play with the aim to make your allience stronger and not yourself, the stronger your allience the higher you will get

Read all the posts in the Newbie forum and your Galaxy forum. Once you know all or 95% of the answers to all questions in the Newbie forum then go ahead to the strategy forum. Read everything. Someposts read 2-3 times to make sure you understand. If you don't understand something ask people nicely to explain. They will. All the other forums are optional, but they always hold little secrets that you can find if you read them i you have time.

Know what race you like and know all the strategies for other races so you know what your enemies do.

Read and watch everything on this site, there are a lot of things to learn from. See how I played in my galaxies and learn from my strategies and mistakes. Perhaps use what i know and make it better.

Last, but the most important: Make sure you know whats happening in the announcements section and what are the changes mcoulton or others are making to the code. Many strategies become outdated as the game develops. Remember Space is not a completed game, there are and may be bugs. Be careful and report them.
