Sift together:
  6 cups of flour
  2 and 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  1/4 tsp. salt
  1 and 1/3 cup sugar.

Add 1 egg and 2 tsp. vanilla, and blend.

Combine with:
  2 cups sweet butter.  (At one point, this mixture should be of sandy texture.) 

Kneed thoroughly.

Refrigerate overnight, and later, roll out on a flat surface and cut into different
shaped cookies.  Top with some different flavored jams.

Bake 20 minutes at 375 degrees.

Variations:  Instead of vanilla, add juice and grated rind of one lemon OR
 add 1 tsp. almond extract and 1 tsp. artificial butter flavor.
