Soda Straw Shrimp



This particular fly is tied in reverse fashion with the head at toward the bend of the hook and with the hook point up.

Hook: Mustad 92611 1-1/0 with offset straightened.
Thread: White 3/0
Head: Mixture of Krystal flash and offwhite bucktail
Eyes: Artificial anthers from artifical flower shop or bridal section with bulbous end painted black
Collar at end of head: Cactus chenille
Body: Offwhite chenille
Hackle: White, palmered from just behind head to tail
Shellback: Cut from flexible drinking straw

Tying instructons: Tie in a mixture of Krystal flash and offwhite bucktail 2/3 of the way to the bend of the hook pointing past the bend to form the head. Tie in artificial anthers for eyes. Wrap a collar of cactus chenille just behind eyes. Build tapered body of off-white chenille. Palmer white hackle from just behind the collar at the head almost to the eye of the hook. Take thread to just behind the collar at the head. Tie on shellback cut from flexible drinking straw, advancing thread toward the eye of the hook and finishing fly just behind eye of the hook. Apply head cement at the windings at the eye of the hook after tying off.
