Larry Miller Receives Appreciation Award

Topeka Collegiate School Science Teacher Larry Miller recently received the 8th Grade Appreciation Award from the 1997 TCS graduating 8th grade class. The award, which is given at the end of each school year by the graduating 8th grade students, is presented to the teacher that has gone above and beyond the high teaching standards of all TCS faculty. This is the second year Mr. Miller has received the award from his students.

The award was presented to Mr. Miller at the 8th grade graduation ceremonies on May 23, 1997. Eighth grade students Sarah Twemlow and Kaherine Garlinghouse presented the award on behalf of the 14 graduating 8th grade students. They stated that Mr. Miller shows extreme dedication as a eacher during his daily classes and theat he makes science interesting by involving his students with meaningful experiments and other activities. They also thanked him for the many hours of outside work he donated to the class as they worked to raise the needed funds for their class trip to San Francisco in May.

Larry Miller grew up on a farm near South Haven, Ks. and began school as a first grader in a one-room school located west of Portland, Kansas. He later attended school in South Haven and graduated from Wellington Senior High School in 1967. His college days were spent at Southwestern College in Winfield, Ks. He graduated from Southwestern College in 1971.

Mr. Miller taught in the Caldwell School System until 1990. He moved to the Topeka area in 1991 and has been employed by Topeka Collegiate School since that date. Topeka Collegiate is an independent school for grades pre-K to 8th grade with an enrollment of about 250 students from the Topeka and Lawrence area. Mr. Miller currently teaches a variety of middle school science classes at Topeka Collegiate . He is a science department chairperson and the middle school lead teacher.

SOUTH HAVEN, KANSAS 67140

Visit South Haven, Kansas. It is a small and friendly town located about 50 miles south of Wichita, Kansas. Just get off of the Kansas Turnpike at the South Haven exit and follow highway 166 about three miles west and you will enter South Haven.

Mr. Miller grew up on a farm that was located 2.5 miles north of the turnpike exit to South Haven. The farm was located on the west side of the turnpike. Its legal location is Section 17, Township 34S, Range 1E in Sumner County, Kansas.
