Monday, August 11th Here's how my mini-interview with Florencia occurred. At around 7:30 in the evening, when most of the press was either watching Mary Joe Fernandez's match or finishing dinner, Shaun Stafford-Beckish brought Flo to the interview room for a small press conference with five Spanish-speaking journalists. Naturally, I snuck in and patiently waited until those guys ran out of questions. Shaun must be very observant, because she glanced over at me when the Spanish interview ended and announced that there would be a few questions in English. Here's what I came up with -- best I could do on short notice... Q: First of all, is it true that you're getting married? Labat: No, not yet. No. Q: OK, just checking. You've got Anke Huber next. You won a set against her last year. Do you like your chances to maybe win the entire match? Labat: Yeah, I think it's gonna be a good match. Anke's playing very good, but I've been playing very good too, so I'm confident in that match. Q: You played mixed doubles at the French Open and Wimbledon this year. Do you think you'll be doing it at the US Open as well? Labat: (laughs) If I find a doubles partner, yes, maybe. Q: You had some problems with the chair umpire today... Labat: No, there were only two bad calls that I went to ask her, but I would say it wasn't very important. Q: Would you say you're arguing more calls this year than in the past? Labat: No. It was only today, because I thought that she wasn't right. That's why I went to ask her about those two calls. That's it.
