David Newman

Winner of The Church of Rabin And Peace Award

The Church of Rabin And Peace would like to honor the chairman of the Department of Politics and Government at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Professor David Newman.

We have long admired Prof. Newman for his demagoguery that is published regularly in the Jerusalem Post. His enlightened op-ed pieces truly reflect the intellectual sewage that has been flowing through the corridors of Ben-Gurion University for quite some time. Indeed, his literary endeavors spread the stench of this intellectual sewage from the occupied of city of Be'er Sheva to the rest of the New Middle East and to the entire world.

On Nov. 22, 2000 he published a veritable masterpiece of enlightened propaganda in the Jerusalem Post. In an article entitled Women, Mothers, and Peace he wrote the following:

"Perhaps the left wing women at the conference were right. An excess of peace is always preferrable(sic) to an excess of exclusive patriotism. After all, there is a greater chance that one's children will stay alive, rather than fear the terrorists bullet. Israelis argue that the responsibility for the deaths of Palestinian children is that of their parents who allow them to be used as cannon fodder and, sometimes even encourage them to throw stones and Molotov cocktails at Israeli soldiers."

"Perhaps it is not too far-fetched to compare their behavior with that of the right-wing settler mothers who irresponsibly place their own children on the front line, in the settlements and buses where the chances of a terrorist attack are so high. An excess zeal of patriotism cannot be allowed to take place at the expense of the well-being of our children."

Prof. Newman's comparison is excellent: The parents of children who are murdered by the terrorists that the enlightened public equipped with rifles are compared to the parents of children who encourage their children to throw stones and Molotov cocktails at Israeli soldiers. This kind of comparison would have our master Yitzchak Rabin proud. For was it not our master Rabin who lumped right-wing protesters and Hamas suicide murderers together and referred to them as the enemies of peace?

It is only fitting that the same day that Newman's article appeared, a car bomb exploded in Hadera, killing and wounding citizens of the New Middle East. This is not the first time that bombs are exploding in Hadera. The lesson to be learned from David Newman's article is obvious to the enlightened reader: The citizens of Hadera, and the rest of Israel, are irresponsible by placing their children in the front line. There is a much greater chance of our children staying alive in the U.S.A. Let's all get visas to the U.S.A., where we will not have to fear the terrorist's bullet.

It's great having "intellectuals" like Prof. Newman around. They are the ones who brought us those wonderful Oslo accords, and they shall be a beacon of radiant light for the enlightened public for years to come.

For this wonderful article, and many others like it, we proudly bestow upon David Newman The Church of Rabin And Peace Award.

If you would like to congratulate Prof. David Newman, send him an email at newman@bgumail.bgu.ac.il .
