All About Tony

This page contains information and personal history of my son, Tony. Tony is my oldest son, being born on November 4, 1961. Born in Baylor Hospital in Dallas, Texas, he weighed in at 9 pounds, 1½ ounces. At that time, all boy babies born in Baylor Hospital, weighing 9 pounds or over at birth were awarded an honorary scholorship to Baylor University in Waco, Texas. Tony's Texas Aggie father was not very happy with this!

****************

After a family move to Denver, Colorado, in June, 1965, then on to Arvada, Colorado, in the Spring of 1966, Tony started to kindergarten at Secrest Elementary School in Arvada, Colorado, in September, 1968. After a family move due to the purchase of a home, he went to Parr Elementary School, also in Arvada. Upon completion of elementary school, he attended Arvada Jr. High School. During his high school years, he attended Pamona High School in Arvada and Westminster High School in Westminster.

****************

Tony joined the United States Air Force in January, 1979, spending his basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. Upon completion of basic training, he was sent to Biloxi, Mississippi, for technical training. Being in the top 3% of his class in technical training, he was shipped overseas where he was stationed at Camp New Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

****************

Tony was discharged from the Air Force at Tinkler Air Force Base in Enid, Oklahoma, in June, 1983, when his grandfather, Eugene F. Riggs, was very ill and in the hospital. He came to Brownwood, Texas, to help his grandmother, Henrietta Riggs, and me take care of his "Grin-daddy" as he had called his grandfather since he learned to talk. Unfortunately, Granddaddy's hospital stay ended with his death.

****************

Tony was at odds with himself about what to do with his life after the Air Force and loss of his grandfather. He wandered about working at several jobs. During this time he met and settled with my wonderful daughter-in-law, Jann Green. After several years of knocking about dabbling in different businesses, Tony went into a Bingo business with his father. He was a partner in the bingo hall when his daughter, Kayla, was born on April 23, 1992.

****************

After some time in the bingo business, the partners split; Tony started a tree trimming business with a friend, as well as a carpet cleaning business with his little brother, Clay. The carpet cleaning business soon went by the wayside as the tree trimming business prospered. The friend faded from the picture so Tony and Jann formed a partnership and continued the business under the name, "Best Darn Services".

This is Tony while talking on phone!

Tony is currently a Certified Tree Trimmer, having been certified by the Colorado State Forrestry Service. His wife, Jann, manages the home office, does the books and generally keeps things moving along with the business. Tony does the scheduling, and some of the climbing, but other than that, I wonder what else he does!! (??)
