December 22, 2010: "Lone Ranger Announcer, Fred Foy died": "Fred Foy, whose stentorian delivery announced the arrival of the Lone Ranger to millions of radio listeners and TV viewers in the 1940s and '50s, died Dec. 22 of natural causes at his home in Woburn, Mass. He was 89." December 15, 2010: "Guns of the Old West - Winter 2011 magazine" Al Dittrich writes the Winter 2011 issue of "Guns of the Old West" magazine is out on the newstsands and the magazine "...has a real nice 5 page article on Clayton Moore and The Lone Ranger, with a number of photos both color & b/w. Some vintage shots too, such as the Clayton & Sally photo that was used on the back cover of his autobiography, and one I've never seen from Dawn's collection dating to 1933 showing Clayton flying in the air as a trapeze artist. Also shown is the display of Clayton's Lone Ranger regalia at the Autry Museum." Al also said: "In the same issue is a 5 page article featuring Ray Crash Corrigan that looks good too, again with a lot of photos, authored by the late C. Jack Lewis." December 14, 2010: "Lone Ranger Avenges the Death of Zorro": Well, at least he does according to Dynamite Entertainment and Classic Media. September 22, 2010: Adventure House re-publishing "The Lone Ranger" magazine series! Lone Ranger fan, Steve Jorgenson, has informed me that Adventure House has re-published the May, 1937 issue of "The Lone Ranger" magazine, which was released this past June. Now available for pre-order, for a November 24, 2010 release, will be the June, 1937 issue of The Lone Ranger magazine. The May, 1937 issue has the following 3 stories in the 128 page magazine: Dust Devils by Claude Rister; The 3-in-1 Lawman by Lawrence A. Keating; and The Marshal of Frozen Cat by Frank Kavanaugh. August 31, 2010: Reprieve, kind of, from WHT for The Lone Ranger: From what I found out tonight, WHT is going to broadcast a few more episodes of The Lone Ranger. But, they will be broadcast on Saturdays in September, 3 episodes per Saturday. I'll try to get the schedule added to my TV Schedule tonight or tomorrow morning.

August 26, 2010: "The Lone Ranger on a NEW network?" Tom D. brought to my attention that The Lone Ranger may, just may, be appearing on a new network, designed for baby boomers and kids, perhaps as soon as this Fall. Here is Cynopsis Media's comment about it: "Luken Communications declared they are launching a new network targeting kids and baby boomers though the name of the network is being kept under wraps for now. The new network will include a combination of animated and live action shows from the Classic Media Library and other classic shows such as Richie Rich, Casper, The Lone Ranger, Mr. Magoo, Secrets of Isis, Zorro, Shazam and Lassie." Thanks for the tip Tom! Stay tuned for hopefully more details. Luken Communications acquired Retro Television a year or two ago.

August 25, 2010: Check your favorite magazine retailer today - ""Guns of the Old West" now available: As noted on August 18th, the Fall 2010 issue of "Guns of the Old West" was on the magazine rack at my favorite grocery store today.

August 18, 2010: "Clayton Moore article in the Fall 2010 issue of "Guns of the Old West"! Al D. informed today that there is another article about Clayton Moore/The Lone Ranger in the Fall 2010 issue of "Guns of the Old West" magazine. This issue will be available at the end of August. Al said its a 4 page article and includes information about the gun and holster set that The Happy Trails Children's Foundation is raffling off in December. Al also said there will be a separate article about Myron Healey. There is also a small insert photo of Clayton as The Lone Ranger with Silver on the upper left corner of the cover, similar to the Summer issue. Look for this issue on your favorite news stand as the end of August rolls around. Thanks for the information Al!

August 18, 2010: Now Confirmed! The Lone Ranger show broadcasts are ending on WHT: I received a confirmation this morning that WHT's broadcasts of The Lone Ranger will end with the August 31st show.

August 16, 2010: "The Lone Ranger" on WHT Coming to an end! I haven't confirmed it yet, but from viewing the September schedule of WHT (World Harvest Television), it appears that "The Lone Ranger" show will be removed from the WHT schedule. "The Lone Ranger" is being replaced with "Green Acres".

July 28, 2010: Interesting ring being sold on Ebay": I received an email about a commemorative ring that is being sold on Ebay. The seller, Gewelometry, has several of the rings on Ebay, ending at various times and dates. I give you the information and let you decide about bidding for any of the rings. July 26, 2010: Fran Striker, Jr. appearing at the 5th Annual Mid-Atlantic Nostalgia Convention": Lone Ranger fan Bob Booth gave me information that Fran Striker, Jr. will be appearing at the 5th Annual Mid-Atlantic Nostalgia Convention in September. From what I have found so far, Fran will give a slide-show presentation about how his father created The Lone Ranger and the Green Hornet characters. Fran's presentation is scheduled for 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, September 23, 2010. The convention will be at the Marriott Hotel in Hunt Valley, Maryland. A source at the convention told me that Fran may be at the convention on Friday but he will not be there on Saturday. The entire convention runs from September 23 - 25 and there are a number of stars appearing, including Van Williams, Dawn Wells, Roy Thinnes, Will Hutchins, Mark Goddard, etc. You can check out the details at the convention web site here: "Fran Striker, Jr. at the 5th Annual Mid-Atlantic Nostalgia Convention" *UPDATE* I also see that Rubén Procopio will be appearing as well. July 10, 2010: "Silver Bullet" newsletter coming next week! Joe Southern advised me today that the "Silver Bullet" newsletter is back from the printer and will be mailed out early this coming week. Look for it in your mail. Its a bit delayed because of computer problems.

July 3, 2010: John Hart in "The Greatest American Hero" on July 4th!: Its short notice but you can catch John Hart in the episode of "My Heroers Have Always Been Cowboys" on July 4th, Sunday morning, 11:00 a.m. CDT on the Syfy channel

May 27, 2010: "Guns of the Old West magazine with Clayton Moore AND a Lone Ranger Slot Machine on Auction now" Al Dittrich was kind enough to tell me of several interesting things for Clayton Moore and Lone Ranger fans. First, Al says to look for the Summer 2010 issue of the magazine "Guns of the Old West" which is on newstands now. Al told me that there is a 5 page story in it, written by Patrick Curtis. Curtis was a lucky child as he was on the filming set of the Lone Ranger episode "Death Trap" (episode # 32, April 20, 1950). Should be an interesting read for Clayton & Lone Ranger fans. There's a small image of Clayton as The Lone Ranger on the front cover, upper left side.....Al then informed me that fans might want to dig out the 1942 "Perils of Nyoka" in which Clayton Moore played the part of Dr. Larry Grayson. Al couldn't remember which chapter of the serial, but in one scene, Clayton is riding on horseback, and rides right past a landmark, later to become known as The Lone Ranger Rock.(See the April 12, 2010 news item where the Lone Ranger Rock is in the opening scene of a Bat Masterson episode)......Thirdly, Al is selling his Bally EVO Lone Ranger Slot Machine on Ebay. If you want to add this machine to your collection or to your rec room, you can view and bid on it on Ebay: "Bally Lone Ranger Slot machine" When this machine came out, I actually found a riverboat casino in Dubuque, Iowa that had two of these slot machines on the boat. May 25, 2010: Fran Striker on "To Tell the Truth": I received a copy of a "To Tell the Truth" televison show episode that featured an appearance of Fran Striker. This appearance was broadcast on September 8, 1960. Fran defined the meaning of "Kemosabe" in reply to a question from the host of the program, Bud Collyer. May 11, 2010: "Computer Crash - Joe Southern" Joe asked me to report that he just had a major computer crash. Depending on what he can recover and how quickly, the next issue of the "Silver Bullet" newsletter may be delayed. Joe is working on the problem. Having experienced a similar situation, I know how aggravating it can be. Good luck Joe and hopefully it will turn out better than it now appears to be.

May 3, 2010: Eric W. Freiwald died! I have just learned that Eric Freiwald, co-writer of "The Lone Ranger and the Lost City of Gold", died January 29, 2010, at his home in Prescott, Arizona at the age of 82. Eric and Robert Schaefer wrote that movie script as well as a number of Lone Ranger t.v. episodes. Eric wrote many cowboy t.v. shows including "Annie Oakley", "Tales of the Texas Rangers", "The Gene Autry Show", "Adventures of Wild Bill Hickok" as well as episodes of "The Beverly Hillbillies" and was an emmy award winner writer for the current day "The Young and the Restless" soap opera which he wrote, for many years. My deepest sympathy to the Freiwald family and friends for their loss. Here is one obituary for Eric from the newspaper in Prescott, Arizona newspaper: "Eric Freiwald"

April 30, 2010: "Lone Ranger Rock & Bat Masterson" As I previously mentioned on April 12, those of you with the THIS channel, can watch the Bat Masterson episode titled "Flume to the Mother Lode". It will be broadcast this Sunday, May 2nd at 6:00 a.m. CDT. Two good views of the Lone Ranger Rock appear in the first 50 seconds of the show opening but not the view that we are familiar with seeing.

April 14, 2010: "Gabriel Horse collectors: I have had a request for help from a Lone Ranger fan who has the Gabriel Silver and Scout horse figures. He wants to know how to clean/remove "yellowish runs/marks on them ( mostly coming from the creases in the plastic )". Has anybody had similar problems with a successful solution? April 12, 2010: "Lone Ranger Rock & Bat Masterson" Tony Montesione told me about this the other day so all the credit goes to him on this bit of trivia. I don't know if the famous Lone Ranger Rock appears in any other television show or movie but it certainly makes an appearance in an episode of the televison series "Bat Masterson". It is a different view of the Rock but it is definitely the Lone Ranger Rock. The episode is titled "Flume to the Mother Lode", season two, episode 16. The Rock is seen in the first minute of the episode. Once as Bat rides in front of it and again, as Bat arrives just seconds later, when the Rock appears in the background. If anyone knows of another "appearance" of the Rock in another television show or movie scene, please let me know. Bat Masterson is currently being broadcast on the THIS channel and I know that some of the episodes are available on DVD. For those of you who don't have the THIS channel or don't want to buy the series, you can watch this episode of Bat Masterson for free, and other episodes as well, at Hulu.com: "Bat Masterson on HULU" Find "Flume to the Mother Lode" in Season 2, episode 16. April 5, 2010: "John Hart in "Highway Patrol" coming to the THIS channel on April 6th: On April 6th, the THIS channel begins broadcasting the 1955 television series, "Real Stories of the Highway Patrol", starring Broderick Crawford. John was in two episodes and his first episode, "Hitchhiker" will be shown on April 13th. John's second episode will be broadcast on April 30th. March 9, 2010: "Sunset Carson Interview of John Hart on You Tube"! Jeff Smith was kind enough to send me to a wonderful You Tube link. Its a 7 minute and 19 second interview of John Hart by Sunset Carson: "Sunset Carson Interviews John Hart" Thanks to Jeff Smith for passing along this great interview segment with John Hart, to me and all of his fans. It was probably filmed in the early 1980's when John was an Associate Producer on the televison program, "Quincy M.E."

March 8, 2010: "New Screenwriter for The Lone Ranger movie?": The latest news is that Justin Haythe might be the latest person given the nod to write the screenplay for the new movie. Haythe wrote the screenplay for "Revolutionary Road" (2008). This from the web site Screenrant: "Screenrant"

March 4, 2010: "Two more Clayton Moore commercials on You Tube"! John Vermeer has called my attention to a couple more commercials that Clayton had done. The ads can be viewed at you Tube. It is an ad that Clayton did for Tyler Country Clothing. John advised me that Clayton's commercial starts at the 4:54 mark and runs through the 5:22 mark. February 24, 2010: "Bill Ward - Stuntman & Actor": For quite some time, I have been trying to find out what happened to Bill Ward. Bill was a stuntman and actor in a number of Lone Ranger episodes. February 24, 2010: "Dan Barton died December 13, 2009"! While reading the latest issue of "Western Clippings", I learned that actor Dan Barton died last December. Dan appeared in episode # 208 of "The Lone Ranger" tv show, "Clover in the Dust". Dan played the part of Tom Yeomans in that episode. Dan Barton died Sunday, December 13, in Sherman Oaks, California, at the age of 88. Dan is survived by his second wife, Gyl Roland; a son, musician Steve Barton; a daughter, Susan Berman; a granddaughter and a brother.

February 23, 2010: "Clayton Moore & Lone Ranger Tee Shirts": Lone Ranger fan, Steve Jorgenson, found a T-shirt web site that has 7 new Lone Ranger and Clayton Moore Tee shirts for sale. January 25, 2010: "WHT Changes Time for The Lone Ranger broadcast"! A notice from WHT informed me that beginning February 1st, The Lone Ranger will be broadcast a half hour sooner, at 4:30 p.m. Eastern/3:30 p.m. Central. Make note of the new time for those of you who watch The Lone Ranger on WHT!

January 9, 2010: "John Hart Tribute Edition cookbook"! Mick LaFever has just announced that a tribute edition of John's "Cowboys in the Kitchen" will be available in late January or early February, 2010. The original "Cowboys in the Kitchen" has been sold out for some time. Mick advises that the cookbook will essentially be the same recipes with the addition of some new illustrations and an added page by John's wife, Beryl Hart.
