December 23, 2010: "Two books of interest for Lone Ranger fans" Lone Ranger fans, as well as Roy Rogers fans should find these two books as interesting and informative: (1) The Old Cowboy Picture Show Revised by Leo Pando and George Coan is a 232 page, 6 x 9 softcover featuring essays from the newsletter both men published from 1998 - 2009. Inside are dozens of great pieces on well known and obscure cowboy heroes (including Clayton Moore and Jay Silverheels); a background history of the silver screen and TV westerns; info on the famous movie horses; lots more. Pando authored a new piece titled "Golden Clouds and Silver Linings"covering events from the time of Roy Rogers' death in 1998 through the opening and closing of the Roy and Dale museum in Branson, Missouri and the 2010 auction of its collection which included Trigger. Order the book directly from George's son Jack, $12.99 plus $4.00 postage in the U.S. Jack Coan - 12520 Briarwood Drive - Laurinburg, North Carolina 28352. (2) Leo Pando's 2007 book "An Illustrated History of Trigger" is now in paperback at $35 plus postage. For Lone Ranger fans there are essays on Silver and the great "Hi Yo Silver" comics published by Dell in the 1950s. The book is a detailed look at the animals and men who created and nurtured the legend of "the smartest horse in the movies." It covers the life story of the original horse and the look-alikes, as well as the story of "Trigger," the legend. A filmography lists all films in which Trigger appeared, including some without Roy Rogers. Television and personal appearances are also discussed. Covered in their own chapters are horse hero comic books and Trigger collectibles. Generous illustrations include many rare (some previously unpublished) photographs gathered from Trigger collectors nationwide, and even copies of Trigger’s registration form and bill of sale. It may be ordered online at McFarland Publishing, Amazon Books and the Autry Heritage Center store.

May 27, 2010: "Guns of the Old West magazine with Clayton Moore AND a Lone Ranger Slot Machine on Auction now" Al Dittrich was kind enough to tell me of several interesting things for Clayton Moore and Lone Ranger fans. First, Al says to look for the Summer 2010 issue of the magazine "Guns of the Old West" which is on newstands now. Al told me that there is a 5 page story in it, written by Patrick Curtis. Curtis was a lucky child as he was on the filming set of the Lone Ranger episode "Death Trap" (episode # 32, April 20, 1950). Should be an interesting read for Clayton & Lone Ranger fans. There's a small image of Clayton as The Lone Ranger on the front cover, upper left side.....Al then informed me that fans might want to dig out the 1942 "Perils of Nyoka" in which Clayton Moore played the part of Dr. Larry Grayson. Al couldn't remember which chapter of the serial, but in one scene, Clayton is riding on horseback, and rides right past a landmark, later to become known as The Lone Ranger Rock.(See the April 12, 2010 news item where the Lone Ranger Rock is in the opening scene of a Bat Masterson episode)......Thirdly, Al is selling his Bally EVO Lone Ranger Slot Machine on Ebay. If you want to add this machine to your collection or to your rec room, you can view and bid on it on Ebay: "Bally Lone Ranger Slot machine" When this machine came out, I actually found a riverboat casino in Dubuque, Iowa that had two of these slot machines on the boat. April 12, 2010: "Lone Ranger Rock & Bat Masterson" Tony Montesione told me about this the other day so all the credit goes to him on this bit of trivia. I don't know if the famous Lone Ranger Rock appears in any other television show or movie but it certainly makes an appearance in an episode of the televison series "Bat Masterson". It is a different view of the Rock but it is definitely the Lone Ranger Rock. The episode is titled "Flume to the Mother Lode", season two, episode 16. The Rock is seen in the first minute of the episode. Once as Bat rides in front of it and again, as Bat arrives just seconds later, when the Rock appears in the background. If anyone knows of another "appearance" of the Rock in another television show or movie scene, please let me know. Bat Masterson is currently being broadcast on the THIS channel and I know that some of the episodes are available on DVD. For those of you who don't have the THIS channel or don't want to buy the series, you can watch this episode of Bat Masterson for free, and other episodes as well, at Hulu.com: "Bat Masterson on HULU" Find "Flume to the Mother Lode" in Season 2, episode 16.
