My Style - Kellie Martin

Her on-the-job wardrobe may be an ER fashion emergency,
but this young doctor in love sure knows how to scrub up beautifully.

Age: 23

Current Project: playing Lucy Knight, a wide-eyed medical student - Martin calls her a "toddler doctor" - who captures Noah Wyle's attention on NBC's ER.

Fashion philosophy: "I'd rather buy a piece of art than spend a lot of money on something I can only wear until I'm photographed in it. I learned that recently with probably the most expensive outfit I ever purchased - a $1,200 Dolce & Gabbana gold-colored suit. I wore it when I was a guest on Rosie O'Donnell. Now I can't wear it again."

Personal history: "I grew up in Thousand Oaks, California. Today, I live in a guest house on my mom's [Debbie] property in L.A. It's convenient because she helps manage my business affairs. My dad [Doug] is a department-store buyer and also lives in L.A. Soon I'll be shopping for another place to live in L.A. with my fiance, Keith Christian, who's a law student at Columbia University in New York."

Breakthrough role: "I've been on TV since I was a kid, but people started to know me ten years ago when I played Becca on ABC's Life Goes On. I played a dweeby teenager, but by the end of the series, she'd become a wise, grown-up woman."

Closet staple: "A pair of scruffy overalls that I used to wear to the darkroom at Yale, where I studied photography for a year. They smell like darkroom chemicals. I love that."

Designer duds: "I love Cynthia Rowley and Betsey Johnson for fun, everyday clothes."

Cosmetic cravings: "A few years ago I wouldn't have been caught dead in blue or purple eye shadow, but I love Chanel's colored eye shadow. I wear it with Great Lash mascara from Maybelline."

Hair care: "I'm addicted to products that smell good and make my hair shiny, like Kiehl's Silk Groom. I love the smell so much that I have to be careful not to put too much on."
