Buster Lesson II
Now that you have Buster in its own directory, it's time to find recipes to edit, then bust. When I save recipes from the lists, I save them as .txt files as I'm going through the mail, and save them in the D:\Buster directory. Any files that need to be busted are to be placed in the same directory as Buster!
So, find a few recipes that you've saved and put them there. I usually save files individually, but you can use groups of recipes too. When I was learningBuster, I chose a short recipe and saved a couple of copies in another directory. If the recipe didn't bust properly, I could delete the mess I made and start over. You might want to do that too.
Now it's time to edit the recipe. Open your text editor (or word processor) and navigate to the Buster directory. Open one of the files you want to bust. Here's how my recipe looks when I open it:
Easy Does It Frosting
6 squares Baker's Semi-Sweet Chocolate
1 cup sour cream
Melt chocolate over very low heat.Gradually add sour cream and blend well. Recipe may be doubled.
To begin formatting a recipe for Buster you need to add [[[ ABOVE the title of
the recipe:
[[[
Easy Does It FrostingNext you want to add your categories, servings and where the recipe is from. Categories is C: plus category name with commas in between the names if you
are putting it into more than one category. Example:C: Cakes, Frostings
Servings is S: followed by the number Example:
S: 1 (well, I guess frosting really doesn't have a number of servings but it
frosts one cake!)Source is B: followed by the name of the person, cookbook, magazine, etc.
Example:
B: Baker's Chocolate Leaflet
The beginning of the recipe will look like this:
[[[
Easy Does It Frosting
C: Cakes, Frostings
S: 1
B: Baker's Chocolate LeafletThe C, S and B can be in any order.
Hit return to leave a space between the end of your info section, and the beginning of the ingredient list.
Here is where some knowledge of the MasterCook format will come in handy. You
may have to change the wording of some of the ingredients, so they fit in the
proper spots.Example: if your recipe calls for 1 10 oz can beef broth, I would change it to read: 1 can beef broth (10 oz) OR 10 ounces canned beef broth
Example: 1 medium chopped onion I would change this to: 1 medium onion,
choppedTo utilize the preparation method you have to leave a comma between the ingredient name and the preparation method or other instructions.
Example: 1 can (optional) water chestnuts I would change this to: 1 can water
chestnuts, optionalThat is how you deal with the ingredient lines. Hit return and leave a space between the ingredient list and the directions. Add ]]] at the end of the directions. As you're going along, you might want to correct spelling or otherwise clean up the recipe. Our recipe now looks like this:
[[[
Easy Does It Frosting
C: Cakes, Frostings
S: 1
B: Baker's Chocolate Recipe Leaflet6 squares Baker's Semi-Sweet Chocolate
1 cup sour creamMelt chocolate over very low heat. Gradually add sour cream and blend well. Recipe may be doubled.
]]]Now go up to FILE|SAVE AS, and the dialog box will bring up the name of the file you're working with. Click OK when you're asked if you want to REPLACE the file. Next lesson we bust!
