Johnny Whitworth

Johnny Whitworth is the kind of guy that no one's heard of, but yet everyone has. He's that "Oh HIM" kind of guy. He's gotten critical acclaim for almost every film he's done, been tagged the next "it thing" for more times then I can count, has turned down some of the biggest films of the decade, and even his acting is similar, but yet surpassing that of Johnny Depp's! So why you ask he is still not famous!? Probably cause he doesn't wanna be, I just know we can't seem to resist this hard-to-find-anything-on-him boy. No matter what you think of him, you have to admit the guy has talent!

Johnny's most popular role so far has to be AJ, the sweet and talented artist/clerk, in "Empire Records." The movie is from 1995 and had no viewers at that time, but now the fan base has rose and rose to millions! Johnny also got a lot of acclaim for his role, Donny Ray in "The Rainmaker" and it was just a small part. Sure he's been tagged a lot as Liv Tyler's boyfriend, Matt Damon's pal, and even the McDonald guy (from "Bye Bye Love"), but which one of these is the real Johnny Whitworth? He chooses mostly independent movies because he likes the acting, he's not for the money or the fame...

Johnny was born on October 31, 1975. He's now just 24. Born in Charleston, South Carolina, he grew up there, plus in Alabama, and spent his early-mid teen years in Dallas, Texas. A true southern boy. At 15 in '91 he was submitted along with 1000's of others to the 1st Young and Modern Man Contest, and at 16 he won, beating everyone! By then he already knew he wanted to act. At 18 Johnny had moved to Los Angeles and started auditioning for commercials and stuff. In '94 he landed a role on the 1st show of Party of Five as Neve Cambell's boyfriend, but quit after 2 shows because he didn't like the atmosphere. In '95 he made his film debut in "Bye Bye Love," it wasn't a big role, but would bring him more. He followed this with the cult hit "Empire Records" where he costarred as the artist in love with Liv Tyler. The chemistry just clicked and it's even been said that they liked eachother offscreen too! Critics dissed the film, but overall liked him. After this he didn't do many more films, even though he got offered major roles constantly (amoung them was "Scream") because he quit acting for almost 2 years. But '97 would bring him his dramatic role in "The Rainmaker" and many independent films, one in which he starred in. All this made him the buzz for awhile. Managing to stay out of the limelight though again, he turned down more films. Instead he stuck with more indies and most mainstream things just forgot about him. It's now 2000 and he's coming back again-with indies of course!

He's not a typical Hollywood type, that's why he quit acting some. He wasn't learning much & didn't like the big shot people. Other interesting facts on him are: he's a huge fan of Rock music-especially Guns N' Roses, he's very goofy, he loves junk food, he dropped about 30lbs for "The Rainmaker," he travels back home a lot. In the past 4 years he has been linked to only one girl, Gina Philips, but I don't know if they're still dating. He has more movies due to come out soon, and hopefully he'll get more credit from these, afterall after over 5 years I think the boy deserves it, don't you!!!
