Some interesting info about the lyrics by Brian:

The reference to Dien Bien Phu is to one of the biggest battles in the
Vietnam war, where the French vacated the country and the Americans moved
in.

The man who came down from Sinai mountain is Christ.
BTW, the song is also on the On Stage album, in the same form as on the
Resume album - i.e. live - and the studio version is on Stonehenge.  It was
co-written by Richie and Mark Roth.
