Family:
Kate is the second of 4 children. She has a older sister, Anna (25),
a younger sister, Beth(20), and a younger brother, Joss(17). Her father, Roger Winslet,
is an actor, as well as her sisters. Her mother trained as a nanny, but also acted and is
the daugther of two actor parents. Her family has a lot of history in acting as you can tell.
Even her Grandparents acted. They presented plays and musicals in their backyard in Reading.
So I guess you can say Kate grew up in an acting world.
Kate has always battled weight problems,especially when she was growing up as a teen.
Kids used to call her "BLUBBER!". She battled not only weight problems, but depression.
Kate attended an acting school called Redroofs in Maidenhead, England starting at the age 11. She left the
school when she was 16. She got her first acting job on a Sugar Puffs commercial when she was 12, dancing
with the Honey Monster. She made her debut on television in a British television drama 'Shrinks', in 1988. Then
in the television series'Casualty' in 1989, 'Dark Season' in 1991, 'Get Back'in 1192, and 'Anglo-Saxon Attitudes' in
1993. She was also involved in the theater which included her roles as Pandora in the musical 'Adrian Mole',
Wendy in 'Peter Pan', Sarah in 'A Game of Soilder', and Geraldine in 'What the Butlar Saw'.
Kate's BIG BREAK and Kate's first role in a film was Juliet in "Heavenly Creatures". Her award winning and critically
acclamied performance in Heavenly Creatures led her to other roles, like her Oscar-nominated role in 'Sense and
Sensibility', which launched her career skyward.

Starbuck is one of Kates favorite places in the States. She is a big coffee drinker. She enjoys shopping, cooking,
and working out. Kate likes Doc Martend and big combat boots, hence her nickname, "Combat Kate".
