I am trying to find info on my biological father's family. His name is Frederick Dorsey Baker, born in Bluefield, WV (I think), September 1918? Mother's name was Ethel, unsure of father's name, but I think it was John. I know he had a brother named Harry in Columbus, OH. He was married to my mother in TN (Reba Howard); and also (at the same time) a lady named Nellie??? Fred and Nellie had two children named Linda and Freddie Joe. He also had a sister in AL, can't think of her name. Fred was married several times prior to marrying my mother???, and probably afterwards too. He died in OK in the 70's. Would like to find anyone that I might be related to on his side, especially brothers and sisters. Any info is greatly appreciated.

I know very little about Bertha Catherine Baker from St. Paul Minnesota, other than she was my father's birth mother. She was born in c. 1903, and came to Seattle. Why or when is not known. In 1923, she named my father James Thornwald Baker before giving him up for adoption. The record shows Guy McCaffey as the father.

Hi

I'm trying to locate information on a Peter Baker. He was suposed to have served in the Revolutionary War, but the dates don't fit. I think there were two Peter Baker's-father and son-one served in the war of 1812 and the other served in revolutionary war. The younger of the Peter Bakers had 12 children one of which was a John Baker who moved eventually to Indiana and married Kizzire Garrettson. She was his second wife. The first wife and children died.

The other brothers moved to Arkansas and Tennessee, but I don't know the names.

John was born about 1835 in Bucks county Pennsylvania.

Thanks for any help.

I have read in several places that someone from Mendon Missouri area was tried and convicted in the Baker Hoax.
Can you tell me who that person was?

C.A. McCullom from Mendon, Mo (convicted); E.E. Baker from Springfield, Mo (convicted); Dr. E.G. Baker from Winigan, MO (not convicted); W.H. Baker (genealogist for hoax group) not convicted, but resided in Linn Co, MO and Independence Mo, he may have been a lawyer. It is his 3'x4' chart many Bakers use and end up having to correct false data. CJ

Services Over the Body of Conrad C. Bitzer Conducted by Schiller Lodge of Masons—Frank Walrod Buried by Trinity Lodge, K. O. E. W.—Tribute by Parson Uzzell is the Memory of George F. Baker—Large Attendance of Friends at Each of the Funerals.
Rocky Mountain News, 2/4/1895
The final act in the tragedy of last Wednesday night, when the boiler explosion at the West Denver power house of the Denver Tramway company sent three souls into eternity unwarned, was performed yesterday—what all that was mortal of the unfortunates was consigned to the grave.
Funeral of G. F. Baker
The funeral of George Franklin Baker, the aged man who died from the shock of the boiler explosion on Thursday morning last, took place from I. N. Rogers’ undertaking rooms on Champa Street. It was a sorrowful little gathering that assembled to pay the last tribute of respect to the memory of a good man. His daughter and son, with whom he has made his home since his residence in Denver, were bowed down with uncontrollable grief, and as Rev. Thomas Uzzell spoke of the virtues of the deceased and comforted as best he could the sorrowing relatives, a deep solemnity pervaded the room. At the conclusion of the exercises, which were short and simple, the body was conveyed to Riverside Cemetery. Mr. Baker was born in Pompey, N. Y., November 17, 1822 and at the time of his death was in his 73rd year. He was a man of fine attainments and ever ready to lend his aid to any good work.
*note from Carole. George is buried in the Baker family plot along with his sister, Charlotte Baker who married her first cousin, Addison Baker. Addison and Charlottes daughter, Helen is also buried there and her daughter, Millie. Look for a very large white horse.

Searching for ancestors of John B. Baker (1801-1866), aka John Boggs Baker, of Perry Co. PA. John married Eleanor English (1803-1880) and had children, from which I'm descended. Don't know John's parents names, but his siblings included: 1) George Baker; 2)Elizabeth Baker (1795-1864) m. John Jacobs; 3) Peter Baker (1797-1874) m. Jane Campbell; 4) Jane Elliott Baker (1808-1885) m. Jacob Ickes; 5) Susan Baker (ca. 1810-after 1880) m. Joseph Douglas. Possible their father was also named Peter Baker, as early censuses record a Peter Baker "Sr" and "Jr" in Cumberland/Perry counties. This Baker family suddenly appears in Cumberland County in late 1700s, but have no idea where they came from.

I am looking for Baker family members descended from Basil Baker, b.before 1775, who lived in Bedford County, Virginia. He had sons named Samuel, b.1809 and Basil, b. 1805. There were daughters named Anna, b.1798, and Matilda. There were more sons and daughters according to the 1810 and 1820 census enumerator in Bedford County.
Circa 1830, the family moved to Henry or Weakley County, Tennessee. Anna, who had married Eli Hatcher in Virginia, had several children. She and her husband both died in a cholera epidemic in 1830. Matilda had married a Turner and moved north out of state. Samuel became a state representative and was a wealthy landowner at the site of what is now Greenfield Tennessee in Weakley County. Basil moved to Texas about 1837 with his second wife. They eventually settled in Montgomery County, Texas. One of Basil's sons moved to Burnet county, Texas about 1883. Meanwhile, a grandson of Samuel Baker moved from Tennessee to Burnet county, was married there and had his first child, Minnie, in Burnet county. His name was John and he eventually moved his family to Oklahoma.
If you think you are related or might be related to any of these Bakers, please drop me a line.
