Heres some star wars character info Luke was a farmboy together with his uncle and aunt at the arid desert planet of Tatooine until he and his uncle Owen bought a pair of droids from jawa merchants. Luke got whined up in the smallest droids quest to find a man named Obi-Wan Kenobi - not knowing that the droids came from princess Leia's ship, which was captured by Darth Vader. The robot showed a holo-message showing princess Leia(whom Luke did not know) pleading for help from Obi-Wan Kenobi. Meeting Obi-Wan(which Luke knew as Ben) Luke for the first time got to learn about the mystical power called the Force, and the now almost extinct order of Jedi knights. Luke which had always been curious about his father, know learnt that his father had been a student of Kenobi, and a very talented pilot, had been killed by a Jedi who had turned over to the dark side of the Force - Darth Vader. Kenobi gave Luke a lightsaber, and asked him to follow him to Alderaan. Luke backed off, but eventually came with Ben when he found his uncle and aunt killed by stormtroopers. In the adventures following Luke and Ben hired a pilot(Han Solo) to fly them to Alderaan, but got captured inside the Death Star, where they were able to free princess Leia. But Ben was killed by Vader. Being able to extract the Death Star plans from R2-D2, the rebels launched an attack on the Death Star. And Luke was strong with the Force and fired the shot which blew up the Death Star. In the following years, Luke became a prominent member of the Rebel Alliance. He earned the rank of commander and formed - together with Wedge Antilles - the Rouge squadron of X-wings, which he led. At Hoth, when Luke was scouting, he was captured by a wampa, injured and had to spend the cold Hoth-night outside. There he saw the image of Ben, telling him to go to the Dagobah system to seek a Jedi master named Yoda. After the Battle of Hoth Luke flew to the swamp planet Dagobah, meeting Yoda. Though Yoda looked at Luke as a impatient young man, which only looked at the pleasures of life, he started training him. Luke learned much from Yoda. But learning that Han and Leia was in danger, Luke fled to the Cloud City of Bespin, not completing his training. At the Cloud City, Luke for the first time met Darth Vader - face to face(Luke had got a glimpse of Vader, killing Ben at the Death Star, Vader had also been close to shooting him down during the Battle of Yavin) Luke and Vader fought with their lightsabers, Luke even hurting Vader. But the fight ended with Vader slicing off Luke's right hand. Vader urged Luke to join him and the dark side of the Force, while Luke crawled out on a catwalk, but it was a dead end. Then Vader dropped the bombshell - He told Luke he was his father. Luke didn't believe him. But Vader reached out his hand to him and again offered him to join him. Choosing between joining Vader Luke looked down and choose to jump. At last he hung in a pylon, where he was picked up by Leia and Lando in the Millennium Falcon. Fitted with a prophetic hand, Luke travelled yet again back to Tatooine to rescue Han Solo form Jabba the Hutt. He succeeded and in the progress he crushed Jabba's criminal organisation. Afterwards Luke went to Dagobah to complete his training. There he found Yoda dying, telling him his training was complete, and the only thing he had to do to become a Jedi, was to confront Vader a second time. Yoda also confirmed Vader's words. Luke was his son. Then he learned from the ghost of Ben, that Leia was his sisters. Arriving at Endor, Luke decided to confront Vader, to seek the good that he knew was left in him. And Luke succeeded. After fighting Vader a second time, he sliced off his hand. But when the Emperor urged him to kill his father, Luke proved himself a real Jedi - refusing. Then when the Emperor was about to kill Luke with his thunderbolts, Vader lifted him up and threw him down a shaft. Luke burned his father's dead body. And at the end he saw his father in ghost form, not as Vader , but as Anakin Skywalker - together with Ben and Yoda. some small bios on others Wedge Antilles is a Rebel-pilot who, together with Luke Skywalker, formed the Rogue squadron of X-wing fighters. Wedge is also the only pilot who took part in and survived the attack on both Death Stars. Half-Corellian, Han Solo enrolled in the Imperial Academy, graduated with honors, and was on his way to a brilliant career in the Imperial Navy when his conscience got in the way when he rescued a Wookie from slavers. Earning a dishonorable discharge and the lifelong gratitude of the Wookie named Chewbacca, Solo won his prized ship, the Millennium Falcon in a sabacc game from Lando Calrissian, and he and Chewie earned a living as a smuggler. After jettisoning Jabba the Hutt's cargo of spice to avoid an Imperial blockade, Han needed to reimburse the crime lord. Obi-Wan Kenobi studied under the Jedi Master Yoda, learning the ways of the Force. When the Clone Wars erupted, Kenobi became a general, fighting alongside Bail Organa of Alderaan and his friend, the young pilot Anakin Skywalker. Kenobi recognized Anakin's natural Force talents and decided to train him to be a Jedi. But learning to use the Force by Kenobi's methods was too slow for the impatient Anakin. He wanted a quicker, less difficult path to the vast power he sensed all around him. Emperor Palpatine offered him just such a path - the dark side. All Anakin had to do was give in to his anger, fear, and aggression. Anakin Skywalker was once an expert pilot, hero of the Clone Wars, and disciple of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Learning to use the Force by Kenobi's methods was too slow for the impatient Anakin. He wanted a quicker, less difficult path to the vast power he sensed all around him. Emperor Palpatine offered him just such a path - the dark side. All Anakin had to do was give in to his anger, fear, and aggression. Ambitious and headstrong, he stepped into the dark side's embrace and became Darth Vader. The Imperial Stormtropper is a cloned man. A person of a group of genetically identical humans, an assembly-line product. He is a thinking man, but he serves a specific purpose and no other. A clone has no mother; only his trainers, and he accepts his fate because he believes it is inevitable. A clone is, physically and emotionally, a normal man. He simply has no human rights and no name. He is the property of the Emperor. Soldires fully formed in the growth tanks quickly proved impractical. Scientists found themselves the befuddled fathers of one hundred sixty pound blubbering idiots. A fetus is now removed from the hatchery after a gestation peiord of sixty weeks and is delivered immediately into the hands of its trainers. TRAINING As kids, Stormtroopers live like hardened cell block inmaes only barely under control. Hundreds of nast little orphans with only one thing on their minds: the sheer unparalleled joy of a good raid. These boys know that they are special and they strut with the proud arrogance of samurai. Their military education is picked up as naturally as an infant learns to talk, and any purpose other than their preordained future as commandos is inconceivable. By the time they are actually contracted into service, each Trooper is anxious to fulfill his common lifelong ambition; to wear the Imperial armor, and to be carried away with the Star Fleet into incredible adventure and battle. Trainees are generally devoid of imagination, but after years of rough talk and stories of conflicts lost and won, indiviual temperaments emerge. Maybe the greates Jedi ever - Yoda lived to be approximately nine hundred years old. Yoda served as mentor and teacher to Jedi Knights. He spent his last years in seclusion, hiding from the eyes of the Emperor on the swamp planet Dagobah. Leia was adopted by Bail Organa and the Royal Family of Alderaan at an early age, raised her as though she were his own daughter, providing her with love and care. She was raised as befits a princess, learning the principles of justice and honor along with her other studies. As she grew older, she became a political leader on Alderaan, eventually winning a seat on the Imperial Senate at a young age. But while she fought for reforms on the Senate floor, she also went to work for the Alliance, which was led by Bail Organa, to restore the Republic. It was while on a two-fold mission for the Alliance and her foster father that she became involved in the events that would lead her into the company of Luke Skywalker and Han Solo. Lando was a friend of Han Solo in his days as a smuggler. Lando used to own the Millennium Falcon, but lost her to Han in a game of sabaac. After winning a stewardship of Bespin's Cloud City in another game of sabaac, Lando became a respective businessman. Han, Leia, Chewbacca and C3PO went to the Cloud City after the escape from Hoth. But the bounty hunter Boba Fett followed them and led Darth Vader to the Cloud City. Lando struck a deal with Vader, leading the rebels into a trap A 200-year-old Wookie from the planet Kashyyyk, Chewbacca is the first mate and co-pilot on the Millenium Falcon. Little is known of his life before he hooked up with Han Solo. He exhibited a natural talent towards mechanics, piloting, and all things technical in nature. He is well trained in hand-to-hand combat and is proficient with the Wookie bowcaster. After leaving his world at an early age to explore the galaxy, Kashyyyk had been overtaken by the Empire and the Wookies were turned into a slave-labor species and it was illegal for Wookies to travel space lanes. Slavers captured Chewbacca, and he spent time performing slave labor. It was only through the intervention of a young Imperial Officer named Han Solo that Chewbacca found freedom. Solo destroyed his military career to free the Wookie, and Chewbacca decided he owed the Corellian a life debt. Their association soon developed into a deep friendship. Chewbacca is a highly skilled pilot, mechanic, as well as marksman with his bowcaster. C3PO is a protocol droid who, together with the R2-unit - R2-D2 - make up the Star Wars movies funniest couple - as a mechanical Laurel and Hardy. C-3PO has been owned by many diferent persons, but are now owned by Luke Skywalker. In the beginning of Star Wars(A New Hope), the two droids are located in Princess Leia's starship, which is attacked by the Empire. Afte Leia planting the information about the Deathstar into R2-D2, the two droids manage to escape in an escape-pod. They land on the planet Tatooine, not knowing that they have a tail of Imperial stormtroopers on their track. They are captured by Jawas and bought by Luke Skywalker and Uncle Owen. After that they are in the posesssion of Luke Skywalker. C3PO refeer to Luke as "Master Luke", even if Luke himself insisted it should only be "Luke". R2-D2 is, as his name indicates an R2-unit. He were aboard Princess Leia's consular ship when it was overtaken and boarded by Imperial forces. The Princess placed the technical readouts for the Death Star in Artoo's memory banks, then ordered it to find Obi-Wan Kenobi. Communicates in his own expressive language of beeps and whistles, which C-3PO must often translate. Pics
Boba Fett And Jabba
Luke with the lightsaber
The Falcon
some more stuff on them Boba Fett is the most notorious and fearsome bounty hunter in the galaxy, and one of the few person who was respected by Darth Vader. Fett wears a mandalorian armor.(The mandalorian were warriors who were defeated by the Jedis during the Clone Wars), but he doesn't have to be a mandalorian himself, just because he wears their armor. There are rumours that Boba Fett was once a stormtrooper who killed his superiour officer. Boba Fett was hired by Darth Vader, together with other bounty hunters to find the Millinnium Falcon after it had escaped from Echo Base at Hoth. Boba did the same trick as Han Solo, he float away with the garbage dropped from the Imperial Star Destroyer. Boba Fett then led Vader to the Cloud City of Bespin before the Millennium Falcon got there. When Han was frozen in carbonite, Fett brought him to his ship - Slave I - to bring him to Jabba the Hutt. After cashing in the bounty for Han, Fett stayed a while at Jabba the Hutt's palace. When Luke, Han and Chewie broke free when they were supposed to be in the Saarlac pit, Han accidentaly turned on Fett's fly-pack, so he flew into a wall and fell into the Sarlacc pit. The movie presumes Boba Fett died in the Sarlacc pit, but in the comics Fett manages to cut himself out of the Saarlac and is saved because of his armor. Super Star Destroyer (SSD) The Super-Class Star Destroyer, the newest model in the fleet, is eight kilometers long, dwarfing even the massive Imperial Star Destroyers. Though the Super Star Destroyer is approximately five times as powerful as its smaller predecessor, the few currently in service are not primarily used as combat starships. Instead, these vessels are used as command ships, guiding fleets and serving as headquarters from which to conduct planetary assaults and space battles. Lord Darth Vader's Executor was a Super Star Destroyer. An even newer Super-Class Star Destroyer as built to serve as the reborn Emperor's flagship six years after the Battle of Endor. This solid-black model is sixteen kilometers long and covered with weapons and defenses. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Star Destroyer The colossal, wedge-shaped capital starships called Star Destroyers are perhaps the most-feared and most instantly recognizable vessels roaming the space lanes. The two newest classes of Star Destroyers, the Imperial class and the Super class, are found exclusively in the Imperial fleet. An older model, the Victory class, dates back to the end of the Clone Wars and can be found in service among system defense and large corporate constabulary fleets. The Imperial-Class Star Destroyer is 1.6 kilometers long and bristles with offensive weaponry. Turbolasers and ion cannon batteries create wide-ranging fields of fire around the wedge, and a complement of TIE starfighters are carried within its hangar bays to add even more punch. Defensive shield generators, tractor-beam projectors, and sophisticated sensor arrays round out this capital ship's exterior emplacements. An Imperial Star Destroyer also carries drop ships, landing barges, shuttles, repair vessels, deep-space probes, an assortment of specialized droids, field artillery weapons, walkers, ground assault vehicles, modular building units, soldiers, and Imperial stormtroopers. Lira Wessex, daughter of the engineer who designed the earlier Victory Star Destroyer, was the driving force behind the Imperial model. Bristling with sixty turbolaser batteries, sixty ion cannons batteries, ten tractor beam projectors, and a full wing of TIE fighters (seventy-two starfighters) in its hangar bays, the Imperial Star Destroyer is a flying weapons platform. While the Empire cannot hope to garrison every system in its control, it can project its might anywhere within a short period of time using combat starships such as the Imperial Star Destroyer. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Death Star The Death Star battle station was to be the ultimate weapon in the Empire's terrible arsenal. It was designed and constructed in secret as the answer to the Emperor's problems with the Senate and as a symbol of his New Order. Once it was fully operational, the Emperor ordered the Imperial Senate disbanded and declared that the Empire would keep local star systems in line through the use of fear--fear of the Imperial fleet and fear of the Death Star. The battle station, the size of a small moon and packed with more destructive power than the Imperial fleet, required a huge crew to operate. The armored shell housed the massive power plants needed to energize the battle station's primary weapon--a planet-destroying superlaser. In addition, the shell was covered with navigation trenches, docking bays, and turbolaser emplacements to fend off capital ship attacks. Artificial mountains and canyons were formed from rising docking ports and command complexes, and the bays held nearly enough squadrons of TIE fighters and other small craft. Though the Death Star showed its relentless power by destroying the planet Alderaan, Rebel agents were able to discover a weakness to exploit when they stole the technical readouts for the battle station. The Battle of Yavin ended with the destruction of the Death Star. Three years later, as the second Death Star neared completion, another battle was waged to keep the massive weapon from being activated. Though never finished, the second Death Star was larger than the original. It measured approximately 160 kilometers in diameter and was armed ith a superlaser that was more powerful and accurate than the original. It could be trained upon capital ships. The Rebels were able to destroy it at the Battle of Endor. The original Death Star was the culmination of the Tarkin Doctrine, a plan and course of action proposed by Grand Moff Tarkin to the Emperor. The Tarkin Doctrine called for rule through the fear of force, using a battle station of such destructive magnitude that fear alone would keep the member worlds of the Empire in line. Imperial space statioin designer Bevel Lemelisk was charged with bringing Tarkin's terrible vision to fruition. Measuring 120 kilometers in diameter, the battle station was constructed over the penal colony world Despayre in the remote Horuz star system. The completed Death Star's personnel complement included twenty-seven thousand forty-eight officers, seven hundred seventy-four thousand five hundred seventy-six troops, pilots, and crewers, almost four hundred thousand support personnel, and more than twenty-five thousand stormtroopers. It carried assault shuttles, blast boats, strike cruisers, drop ships, land vehicles, and various support ships in massive holds, along with seven thousand two hundred TIE fighters. Its surface was protected by ten thousand turbolaser batteries, two thousand five hundred laser cannons, two thousand five hundred ion cannons, over seven hundred tractor-beam projectors, and a superlaser. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Darth Vader's Custom TIE Fighter The TIE Advanced x1 Prototype was the fighter used by Lord Darth Vader at the Battle of Yavin. THis particular vessel was one of the several TIE prototypes fielded by the Sienar Fleet Systems design team during the critical years between the Battle of Yavin and the death of the Emperor at Endor. The TIE Advanced x1 was perhaps the most sucessful of these prototypes, and many of the refinements in that vessel were later incorporated into the TIE Interceptor and teh TIE Advanced (TIE/Ad) ship dubbed the "TIE Avenger." The TIE Advanced x1 was initially produced in only very modest numbers. Lord Darth Vader recieved one of the vessels for his personal missions; most of the other ships were deployed to elite Imperial squadrons for field testing. By the time of the Battle of Hoth, TIE Advanced x1 fighters had been deployed to a number of Navy fleets, including Lord Vader's Star Destroyer squadron. The Empire decided not to order the TIE Advanced x1 in large quantities, citing the excessive cost. Privately, some Imperial Navy strategists admitted that the Navy was afraid to purchase a fighter with a hyperdrive, fearing that it would provide an excuse to slash orders for new capital starships. The Empire instead opted for the new TIE Interceptor, which featured the TIE Advanced x1's drive system, but in a more compact ship. While the TIE Interceptor lacked hyperdrive and shields, it was blindingly fast, incredibly maneuverable, and significantly cheaper than the TIE Advanced x1. By the Battle of Endor, the large increase in TIE Interceptor production meant the end of production for the TIE Advanced x1. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TIE Fighter The main combat starfighter used by the Empire is the TIE fighter. Fast, maneuverable, and apparently endless in number, TIE fighters are deployed from bases and capital ships, as they have neither the range nor the capability to travel great distances on their own. As short-range patrol and attack craft, TIEs serve the Imperial fleet very well. Twin ion engines (hence the name TIE) provide the propulsion for these fighters, which are controlled by a single pilot. At the height of the Empire's military buildup, when resources were plentiful and supplies were nearly unlimited, the need was felt for a deep-space starfighter that was cheap to make, quick to produce, and relatively powerful--especially in large numbers. The TIE fighter was the result. Armed with two laser cannons but lacking any sort of combat shields, TIEs were designed for use as reconnaissance craft, perimeter defense ships, and ship-to-ship combat vehicles. The distinctive hexagonal solar-panel ''wings'' that jut from the spherical command pod gather light and convert it into energy that powers the propulsion and weapons systems. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TIE Interceptor The TIE Interceptor is the direct result of advancements for Darth Vader's TIE Advanced x1 Prototype. It is faster, more maneuverable, and far more lethal than the standard TIE/ln fighter. This interceptor uses the standard TIE cockpit, drive pod, and wing braces. The solar collectro panels have been elongated and bent, providing extra power while not limiting the pilot's field of vision. The solar panels appear to be "dagger-shaped," making the interceptor far more intimidating while giving i a smaller profile, making it harder for opposing gunners to target. The TIE Interceptor has more powerful drives than does the TIE/ln and is almost as fast as the Alliance's A-Wing fighter; it is faster than any other fighter in production. Like other TIE fighters, the TIE Interceptor has little armor plating and no shield generators, and it is easily destroyed by enemy fire. Interceptor pilots rely on the ship's maneuverability and on superiority of numbers to survive engagements with better armed and armored fighters. Every effort has been made to save weight on the TIE Interceptor. There is no life support system, so pilots must use fully sealed flight suits. The TIE Interceptor has no hyperdrives and requires a large capital ship to serve as a base of operations. TIE Interceptors are primarily deployed with Star Destroyers and at key star bases, such as the starship yards in Kuat and Fondor. Lesser capital ships, such as Victory Star Destroyers and Dreadnaughts, and more remote bases must make do with the older TIE/ln fighters. The Empire intended the TIE Interceptor to eventually replace the TIE/ln, but by the death of the Emperor only about 20 percent of the Imperial fighters in use were Interceptors. As Grand Admiral Thrawn initiated his bid for power, he began arming TIE Interceptors with shields, knowing that the Empire could no longer consider these exceptional ships to be disposable. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TIE Bomber The TIE Bomber was the Empire's primary assault bomber. While slower and less maneuverable than standard starfighters, these bombers provided excellent "surgical strike" potential against ground and deep-space targets. TIE Bombers have double pods and elongated solar panels. The starboard pod holds the pilot's compartment (with ejection seat) as well as flight computers, communications, and life support. The port pod contains the forward and main ordinance bays as well as the targeting and delivery systems. The ship is powered by Sienar Fleet Systems P-s4 twin ion engines mounted as a single unit between the two pods Mon Calamari Star Cruiser The Mon Calamari Star Crusiers are the main cruisers in the New Republic's battle fleet. They are durable ships that are as fast and almost as tough as the larger Imperial Star Destroyers. It must be noted that even Imperial Navy commanders have reluctantly admitted that the Mon Cals are superior space combatants. Each Mon Calamari Star Cruiser is handcrafted by dedicated technicians and engineers. These capital ships are treated as works of art, no simply as weapons of war. In fact, they were originally spaceliners that were converted into combat warships when the Mon Calamari joined the Alliance. One of the first models to be converted was the MC80, a 1,200-meter-long cylindrical ship covered with pods, bulges, and bumps arranged in a seemingly haphazard fashion. Mon Calamari ships look more organic than technological, but they are considered to be among the finest vessels traveling the space lanes. These vessels are built with many redundant systems, making them difficult to service but extremely reliable during combat situations. Notable Mon Cal ships include the round, blimp-shaped Headquarters Frigate (also known as the Home One) and the winged Medical Frigate. Home One served as Admiral Ackbar's command vessel for the attack on the second Death Star and went on to excel in a number of other pivotal battles against Imperial forces. An exceptionally armed vessel, it carries an incredible ten squadrons of starfighters, for a total of 120 fighters. Its weaponry includes twenty-nine turbolasers, thirty-six ion cannons, and multiple tractor-beam projectors and shield generators. Mon Cal ships have unusually powerful shields--extra shield redundancies allow the Mon Cals to quickly replace damaged shield arrays even while in combat, and this made it much more difficult for Imperial guns to wear down a Star Cruiser's defenses. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nebulon-B Frigate The Rebel fleet used many different types of combat cruisers, including the Nebulon-B Escort Frigate. After his confrontation with Darth Vader on Cloud City, Luke Skywalker was treated aboard a Nebulon-B converted for medical duty. The Nebulon-B Escort Frigate is three hundred meters long and was originally designed by the Empire for use against Rebel starfighters, which had scored several victories against poorly defended Imperial cargo convoys. The Alliance acquired several Nebulon-B Frigates when a number of the vessels were captured by Rebel forces, and when crews defected to the Alliance. These escort frigates proved to be key starships in the Alliance's fleet, especially in the early stages of the war against the Empire. As larger cruisers came into the Rebel fleet, the Alliance converted several of the Nebulon-B ships into medical frigates, comand ships, and long-range reconnaissance ships, and search and rescue frigates. The Alliance's medical frigate, a converted Nebulon-B, has treatment facilities for over seven hundred patients. With complete modern medical materials, including fifteen bacta tanks, the ship's patient survival rate is nearly 98 percent. To make room for the medical facilities, the ship's weaponry is generally reduced to six turbolasers and eight laser cannons. Most of the interior hangar bay spave is lost, and the medical frigate carries no fighters, instead relying on other ships for protection. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Millenium Falcon The Millenium Falcon is an old, battered, and reconstructed stock light freighter of Corellian design, approximately twenty-seven meters in length. Currently it serves as the personal transport and means of income for Han Solo and his partner, Chewbacca the Wookiee. In the past, it also belonged to Lando Calrissian and assorted others. Under Solo's guidance and Chewbacca's careful and loving administration, the Falcon has undergone major overhauls, refittings, and modifications that make all but its external appearance vastly different from the manufacturer's specifications. Some of the modifications include custom security mechanisms, computer-assisted targeting consoles, and boosted deflector shields; it also has a more powerful hyperdrive, armored hull, and weapons systems allowed for a ship of its class, size, and designation. The Falcon is armed with two quad laser cannons (one each in the top and bottom turrets) two concussion missle launchers, and a retractable light laser cannon. With the addition of falsified ID profiles and hidden cargo holds, the Falcon is a perfect smuggling vessel. During much of the Galactic Civil War, the Falcon suffered from a rash of minor problems that required almost constant periods of repair. Still, it was one of the best ships in service to the Alliance. It participated in the destruction of both Death Star battle stations, ran through Imperial blockades with apparent ease, and ferried Princess Leia Organa on many of her most important missions through those dark years. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A-Wing The A-Wing, a lightweight, wedge-shaped military starfighter, made its first appearance late in the Galactic Civil War on the side of the Rebel Alliance. Designed for high speed and maneuverability, the A-Wing carries two wing-mounted, pivoting blaster cannons, a sophisticated targeting computer and sensor array, and light combat shields. Build for ship-to-ship combat, it was the Alliance's answer to the Empire's newer TIE fighter models. Two extra-large real-space power plants and low total mass make this the fastest combat starfighter in either arsenal, beating out even the TIE Interceptor for pure speed in normal space. The A-Wing was originally designed to defend Rebel bases and merchant ships from Imperial raids. However, Rebel tacticians eventually learned that it was far better for "hit-and-fade" assaults against Imperial vessels, where superior speed allowed the A-Wing to attack and flee before enemy fighters could be scrambled. The A-Wing was also used in combination with other Rebel fighters: the "A-Wing slash" was a devastating attack that used slower fighters to distract enemy TIEs while the A-Wings closed in on the Imperial ships and cut them to ribbons. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- B-Wing The uniquely shaped B-Wing fighter adds four power plants and a comand pod to a primary airfoil to create one of the most heavily armed starfighters in the Alliance arsenal. Two movable secondary airfoils form a cross midway between the command pod and the primary airfoil wingtip. These alter their position during flight: they extend fully to bring the starfighter's maximum concentration of firepower to bear and tuck into the primary airfoil when in cruise mode. The command pod employs a radical design, using an automatic gyroscopically stabilized suspension system to keep the pod in a fixed position. The airfoil rotates around a stabilized pod, creating a flexible firing platform while the pilot experiences none of the effects of rapid spins, twists, and turns. The primary and two secondary wingtips sport ion cannons, while the command pod features a mounted laser cannon. Other weapons include two internally mounted proton torpedo launchers and two small blaster cannons. These starfighters played a key role in the Alliance victory at the Battle of Endor. In response to the growing success of Imperial escort warships, Admiral Ackbar concieved and headed the Shantipole Project. With the aid of the Verpine colonies of Slayn and Korpil, Ackbar designed the B-Wing. The ships combines speed with armor and armament, thus creating a formidable starfighter to aid the Rebel Alliance. Designed as a pure starfighter, the B-Wing originally had no hyperdrive capability. Hyperdrives were added to the design prior to the Battle of Endor. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- E-Wing The FreiTek E-Wing starfighter was introduced during Grand Admiral Thrawn's campaign against the New Republic. A year later, when the revived Emperor made his bid for power, the ship had become a key element of the New Republic's starfighter forces. The E-Wing was designed by the former Incom Corporation designers who created the fabulously successful X-Wing starfighter. The E-Wing gave their new company, FreiTek, a design that ranked with the best fighters any company was producing. Initial engagements with Imperial fighters convinced the New Republic's pilots that they had an incredible ship at their disposal. The E-Wing was initially designed with the same mission profile as the older A-Wing: to protect New Republic convoys from Imperial raiding missions. The ship provides respectable speed, but its greatest asset is firepower. The primary weapons are fire-linked triple laser cannons: one cannon on the end of each wing, with the third cannon directly over the cockpit. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- X-Wing Incom Corporation's T-65 X-Wing is a small, single-pilot starfighter that measures 12.5 meters from nose to engine block. Those who fly them sometimes refer to X-Wings as snub fighters. Whith powerful sublight ion engines, a targeting computer, defensive shields, four wing-tipped laser cannons, and a limited supply of proton torpedoes, the X-Wing is fast, highly maneuverable, and extremely well armed. These starfighters are also equipped with hyperdrives for lightspeed travel. A recessed socket, situated on the outer hull behind the cockpit, is designed as an interface for an R2 astromech droid. An R2 unit assists the starfighter's pilot by monitoring onboard systems, performing routine and emergency maintenance, and even flying the craft when circumstances permit. Astromechs also augment the craft's computer capabilities, assist with astrogation, and hold preset hyperspace jump coordinates. The X-Wing's double-layered wings split open into an X shapre for atmospheric travel and when the starfighter shifts into attack position. The Alliance to Restore the Republic uses these starfighters. The T-65 X-Wing was the last starfighter produces by the Incom Corporation before its seizure by the Empire. When the X-Wing was in its final design stages, Imperial Security Bureau agents began to suspect that members of Incom's design staff might have sympathies for the Rebel Alliance. A Rebel commando team helped Incom's senior design staff defect to the Alliance; the designers took with them all the plans of the X-Wing. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Y-Wing The Y-Wing is an older design, predating the X-Wing and TIE/ln by several years. These fighters have a reputation for durability, and are in use at countless Rebel bases. Their limitations were made abundantly clear at the Battle of Yavin: only one fighter from Gold Squadron survived the battle. The Y-Wing is easily recognized by its distinctive narrow central hull section and the two large engines set far away from the body. Before the superior X-Wing was introduced, Y-Wings were the flagship fighters of the Rebel Alliance. They played a prominent role in the Battle of Vnas and Duro and the First Battle of Ord Biniir. Rebel Alliance Y-Wings saved thousands of lives by holding off Imperial TIE Bombers during th Siege of Ank Ki'Shor. Two squadrons of Y-Wings were used at the Battle of Yavin, where the first Death Star was destroyed. As the Alliance gets more X-Wings, Y-Wing fighters are increasingly being shifted to outlying Rebel locations, and are more often being used for raids on Imperial convoys, rather than engagements with TIE Fighters. The Y-Wing is a multipurpose vessel with a secondary mission profile as a light bomber. Y-Wings are devastating in close-quarters combat,, where their durability allows them to withstand several blasts. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Corellian Corvette The famous "Rebel Blockade Runner" in actuality was a single ship named the Tantive IV. A Corellian Corvette, the ship was registered as a consular vessel with the Royal House of Alderaan's diplomatic corps. It was destroyed shortly after being captured by the Imperial Star Destroyer Devastator over the desert world of Tatooine. The Corellian Corvette is a common multipurpose vessel. It has a modular design and can be configured for cargo transport, passenger liner service, or even military duty. The Corvette is so common among legitimate shipping, passergers, and government interests that many pirate and Rebel Alliance groups have taken to using it for their own purposes, frustrating the efforts of the Imperial Navy to control the spread of the Rebellion.
