"Because we are all going thru the same thing... ...and sometimes just knowing you're not alone makes all the difference in the world" Degenerative Disc Disease - A general term applied to degeneration of the lumbar spinal discs which serve as cushions between the spinal vertebrae. Degenerative disk disease involves the stiffening of the spine due to a loss of disk function. Spinal disks are found between vertebrae and are made of a soft cushioning substance called cartilage. These allow for movement and help absorb shock between the bones of the spine. Disks are often worn down and become less pliable as a person ages, or they may be weakened by some types of injury, disease, or arthritis. When a disk is severely debilitated, bones may come in contact with one another or with nerves of the spinal cord causing pain, stiffness, and weakness in the back. Although these degenerative processes are part of the natural aging of the spine, the discs of some people degenerate much more quickly than others. Also, for reasons as yet unknown, some individuals experience much more pain from these degenerative changes than others. DDD can cause chronic pain, incurable pain, or intractable pain. Chronic pain is any pain lasting for a long period of time or marked by frequent recurrence. Chronic pain can make it difficult or impossible for you to lead a normal lifestyle. Incurable pain is any pain that cannot be totally removed or eliminated by any known means. Intractable pain is pain which is excruciating, constant, incurable, and of such severity that it dominates virtually every conscious moment and produces mental and physical debilitation. Welcome! Hi and welcome to the site! This page was created for people suffering with Degenerative Disk Disease. My name is Jan, and I am a 35 year old female that suffers from it. I have not been able to find a whole lot of information about this disease, (yes, it really is a disease), so I wanted to create a site to let others suffering from this dreadful disease know that they are not alone. I know exactly what you are going thru. I hope to make this a resourceful site and will add information as I find it. Also, I want to say just for the record that I haven't, and am not, making any money from this site. Any advertisments you see are either banner exchanges, (which I have no control of), or sites that I think might be helpful to you or that are good causes. Thank you for visiting and please feel free to offer any comments or suggestions. Click Here To Visit Our DDD Discussion Board

Hate those annoying pop-up ads? I use this myself and it works. And it's free. As long as you have it turned on, no windows can pop-up and it gives you a sound alert when one tries to. And if there is a site you are on that you need to have a second window pop-up, you just double click on the icon in your tray to turn it off, then double click again to turn it back on after the window you wanted pops up. Check out the Pop-up Stopper I don't necessarily endorse any of these Do you use intermittent catheters? STOP Putting Your Kidneys At Risk!!! Urinary Tract Infections Are No Fun And Can Be Serious!!! Our Urological Home Care Program gives you enough supplies so you'll never have to wash and reuse dirty catheters ever again plus you get gloves, under pads, antiseptic wipes, K-Y jelly, and even misc. items if needed with no up front costs to you!
