WELCOME to Disc Golf in Danville! The challenging 9-hole course at Henry
Jackson Park was designed by David Greenwell, a Disc Golf World Champion
from Louisville, Kentucky, whose objective was to create a course that
would be both fun for the novice play-er and challenging for the serious
disc golfer.
This was accomplished by creating an "amateur" and "pro" tees and by
establishing the "pars" that you will see on the tee signs for recreational
use. Professional players use a "pro par" score where every hole is counted
as a "par 3" regardless of difficulty or distance.
Disc Golf is played much the same as "ball golf' and is growing rapidly
as a popular family activity and competitive sport! Players "tee off" or
"drive" from a tee area by throwing their disc toward the Pole Hole, make
"approach shots" and "putt" with short tosses into the Pole Hole® basket
(the same as putting the ball in the hole in ball golf) to "hole out."
Any flying disc can be used to play and there is no "green fee" - it's
free! Serious players use specially designed golf discs that are more aerodynamic,
heavier and vary in profile with each model having different flight characteristics.
Golf discs cost between six and ten dollars on the average and come in
a variety of designs for drivers, approach discs and putters.
The Basic Rules:
Players must throw from the designated tee areas (either amateur or
pro). Once the "tee" order is determined, the drive landing furthest from
the hole throws first and the closest throws last.
The best score on the previous hole tees first on the next hole and
so on.
Approach shots are made by keeping one foot on the spot where the disc lands and the other behind or even with that spot. "Run ups" are allowed but you must release the disc from the point directly behind your "lie."
One stroke (throw) penalties will be scored for:
(1.) When the disc's "lie" is 2 meters (6 ft. 6 in.) or higher off
the ground (Like stuck in a tree!). The next throw should be made directly
below your "lie" (Where it "stuck!").
(2.) When the disc lends on the blacktop sidewalks and other designated
"out of bounds" areas (shelters, etc.) and is completely surrounded by
the O.B. surface. Partially on an O.B. surface is not O.B.! (3.) Any "unplayable
lie" such as in "non-casual" (too deep) water, under a walking trail bridge,
etc.
Note: Throws are made from the point the disc went out of bounds or
immediately behind the unplayable lie.
You are considered to be "putting" if you are within 10 meters (32 ft.
10 in.) of the Pole Hole®. Falling or jumping toward the Pole Hole®)
while putting is not allowed.
To "hole out," the disc must be supported by the basket. Hitting the
chains does not count and landing on top of the Pole Hole® does not
count!
Be courteous! Wait until the group ahead is safely out of range before teeing-off. Please do not "slap chains" or abuse the baskets! If you get into another "fairway," the group playing the higher number hole has right-of-way. If you find a "lost" disc, most players put a phone number on the back to call.
