The Power Cosmic
The "Power Cosmic" is the natural energy of the multiverse available to any living thing but most accessible to the "new gods" whose very existence is possible only within massive amounts of this mysterious energy. No one knows for sure the source of this energy; and yet, it is known that stars, planets, and the like contain massive amounts of it. Therefore, it is not uncommon for the gods (or other powerful entities) to built strange device with which they harness "cosmic power" from these sources.
Use of the Power Cosmic by The New Gods
New Gods have a tremendous, though finite, amount of Power Cosmic from which to draw and modify reality as they interact with their environment. A New God can modify reality with Power Cosmic in three ways:
Transform Matter: A New God has the inherent ability to transform matter from one state of being to another by expending Power Cosmic. This ability often appears to the naked eye as "creation" but it is not, it is only taking molecules from various positions and then repositioning them into the desire of the New God.
Self Transformation/Duplication: By harnessing the Power Cosmic a New God is able to turn his or her self into any known or unknown thing indefinitely. Furthermore, a New God is able to create a full clone of his or her self that can function completely autonomously from its source-- always making the same exact decisions of the original!
Magic: A New God has the inherent ability to "will" magical effects into existence. All spells cast by a New God are instantaneous and can be made very potent-- depending on the amount of Power Cosmic expended.
The Power Cosmic And Mortals
Mortals can also tap into the Power Cosmic; however, a mortals use of this power is much more limited than that of the New Gods. Mortal have no inherent abilities as do the New Gods but can significantly enhance their abilities if they are able to harness some of its power. The Power Cosmic can be attained by a mortal in a variety of ways. Here are a few:
By direct grace of a New God. In other words, a New God can give the Power to a Mortal on certain conditions determined by a higher power (the DM :) ).
Certain Artifacts will bestow various amounts of Power Cosmic which can be used by mortals in a variety of ways (listed below).
Deeds of an especially heroic nature may be rewarded by the Old Gods by the gift of some Power Cosmic. While the Old Gods have limited access to the Power Cosmic, they still have much more access than a mortal.
How Can A Mortal Use the Power Cosmic??
A Mortal can use the Power Cosmic in several ways:
Stat modification: By expending 1000 Cosmic Power a Mortal can increase one of their stat 1 point (max of 25).
Dice Modification: By expending 1 Power Cosmic a Mortal can increase a die roll by .5.
Damage Modification: By expending 2 Power Cosmic a Mortal can increase damage rolls by 1 die.
Matter Transformation: By expending 500 Cosmic Power a Mortal can transform up to 1 ton of matter. This is the minimum expenditure for Mortals and for matter transformations over 1 ton an additional expenditure of 500 Cosmic Power is necessary up to two tons-- and so on at a 500 point to 1 ton ratio.
Banking: Finally, a mortal can bank his or her Power Cosmic. When a Mortal banks the Power Cosmic becomes part of his or her essence. This is done with the hopes that he or she will become "attuned" to the cosmic power and attain a permanent rechargeable amount as per the New Gods. Mortals who are "attuned" can use their Power Cosmic much like a New God with very significant differences in terms of potency.
