ANGELES

To me, Angeles is a song of hope. Whenever we are in need of comfort and support, hope is oftentimes the answer. Besides hope, we also need to let loose the inner pressure we keep capped up within. Rather than violently exploding, we should allow such stress to gently vent. With the help of the Angeles, one can already be said to have the ideal life. Follow the advice, one has only one life to live. Make it count.

TwentyPetalsIII

Angels, answer me,
are you near if rain should fall?
Am I to believe
you will rise to calm the storm?
For so great a treasure words will never do.
Surely, if this is, promises are mine to give you.
mine to give…

Here, all too soon the day!
Wish the moon to fall and alter our tomorrow.
I should know
heaven has her way
– each one given memories to own.

Angeles, all could be
should you move both earth and sea
Angeles, I could feel
all those dark clouds disappearing…

Even, as I breathe
comes an angel to their keep.
Surely, if this is
promises are mine to give you.
mine to give…

Angels, answer me,
This line sets the tone of the song. Since the Angels are summoned, one can say that the singer is seeking a higher power. ‘Answer me’ suggests some urgency. This means that people usually look to the heavens for help in times of urgent need.
are you near if rain should fall?
Rains and storms are associated with less pleasant things. Because the question is whether the Angels are near during such episodes, we can derive the fact that people have the need for comfort during the bad times, whether this comfort comes in the form of religion, or another human being, or of some other material object. Even though one may surround themselves with false hopes, it is always wise to have comfort to lean upon during such moments of misery.
Am I to believe you will rise to calm the storm?
In this line, the storm refers back to the falling rain. This further supports the fact that comfort and support are essential. In this song, that support is the Angel. Here, the question is whether that Angel will subdue the storm. This means that sooner or later, our fears will be overcome by our hopes. Since our hopes may be our only salvation, we should cherish them more than anything else.
For so great a treasure words will never do.
This line reinstates the previous thought that our hopes are the greatest things we will ever own. They are indeed our only treasures. This line says it all, they are so great, words aren't enough to describe their importance.
Surely, if this is, promises are mine to give you.
mine to give…
This line concludes the first verse. The promises symbolize all the secrets and things we hold dearly. Because our hopes of comfort are so great, even the power of our secrets will not outdo them. So, since the angel symbolizes that hope, we must create a strong relationship with it, so strong that even our darkest secrets can be shared. Idealy, secrets are never shared, but in this case, the angel supersedes this rule, and we are able to give in.
Here, all too soon the day!
This line should be read in context with the previous verse. When it is raining, the skies are dark and grey, like that of night. Here, day comes, meaning the angels have harnessed the storm. This statement is said in exclamation, showing the joy of overcoming our obstacles (of course with the help of our hopes).
Wish the moon to fall and alter our tomorrow.
But, with the conquest of our obstacles comes a lull of boredom. Humans are erratic; they need things to keep them occupied. The rains (obstacles) have been overcome, and now we want something to happen, something to spice up our lives. By wanting something to alter our tomorrow, we want so much more than we should be asking for.
I should know
heaven has her way
Here we have a reflection, almost an apology. One should know better than to ask for more than they truly deserve. The use of a feminine heaven also invokes more feeling. Even though the mother-figure is supposed to be caring and nurturing, she still has the power to not grant us all our wants, especially if they are more than we should get.
– each one given memories to own.
This talks about the angels, not the heaven. Angels make up a large part of this heaven. In this song, the angels are also the part of ourselves we cherish the most. Because these angels are given memories of the past, this suggests importance of ago. For the most part, our hectic lives tend to dwell on future deadlines and such, but here, we should take a moment to relish the past and actually look at all our accomplishments. Remember, what you have done is more powerful than what you say you will do.
Angeles, all could be
should you move both earth and sea
Submission is probably the theme hear. After accepting the fact that we cannot always control our destinies, we allow the angels to do their duty of writing the future. Although it is always helpful to guide our futures, sometimes Fate should be given a share of credit as well.
Angeles, I could feel
all those dark clouds disappearing…
By allowing our hopes to be our intuition, we usually end up in a happy denouement. We should drop our stress and worries, take a step out of reality, and allow the angels pave our road for this road will always be free of potholes, speed traps, and the willy-nilly of modern-day life.
Even as I breathe
comes an angel to their keep.
The angels are hard at work during every moment of time. We should respect them and allow them to do their jobs peacefully. In effect, we are actually allowing our own dreams to grow into a prosperous reality.
Surely, if this is
promises are mine to give you.
mine to give…
In conclusion, a life of stress and worries is not what we were meant to carry out. Take a moment to reflect on the joys of Life, savor that moment, treasure it, and pass it on to someone in need.
