Whatever happenEd to..........
December 1964. David Cook changed his name to David Essex after his band 'The China Plates' broke up and faded into oblivion. Throughout the sixties, his string of (now highly collectable) singles built him a reputation as a capable vocalist. Although great things were predicted, they never materialised. By the start of the seventies, he was working as a lorry driver and a window cleaner to support himself and his wife Maureen. In 1971, he landed the part of Jesus in the musical gospel and after it opened on 17th November 1971, he never looked back. In 1973, he landed the leading role in That'll Be The Day, opposite Ringo Starr. During the making of That'll Be the Day, David wrote 'Rock On' hoping it would be the soundtrack for the film, but it was rejected as too strange. But he refused to give up and recorded it with Jeff Wayne. It was released on 10th August 1975 by CBS and a month later peaked at No.3 in the British charts. Early 1974 was spent filming 'Stardust' and in the autumn he did his first tour. Today, David Essex was last spotted performing in the small seaside towns in England.......Do you know more? Let me know.
