AUTHORITES: Thomkin's "History of Rockland County" p. 165
"NY in Revolution as Colony and State" p. 160.

Jessie Roderman has much information concerning Jacob Thiell. She says he was a member of some comission directly after the Revolution.
Also there was an article in the White Plains (NY) newspaper saying that John Thiell was the son of Jacob Thiell who came to this country three times before settling in Rockland County at Thiells, which place took his name. He erected a forge there and moulded bullets for the Continental Army.
Lucy Thiell remembers the forge. It was Elisa Thiell (nee: Barnes) who named Thiells, as she gave the railroad company the land on which they erected a station, if they would name the place for her.
There is an account of Jacob Thiell in "cole's History of Rockland County".

JACOB THIELL'S MILITRY RECORD IN REVOLUTION:
At present I have no detailed information concerning Jacob's military service, but I believe Jacob Thiell served as a private in the Orange County, NY militia, 2nd regiment, under Col. Ann Hawkes Hay.
