From the Event Comics homepage: MARVEL COMICS GROUP JOINS FORCES WITH CREATORS JOE QUESADA AND JIMMY PALMIOTTI Legendary Marvel Characters to Experience Fresh Spins on Four Titles Kevin Smith, Noted Writer/Director of Clerks, Mall Rats and Chasing Amy, to Write First Six Issues of Daredevil New York, February 18, 1998 -- Joseph Calamari, President and COO, Marvel Entertainment Group, Inc. announced the formation of a strategic packaging alliance with Joe Quesada and Jimmy Palmiotti, Co-Founders of Event Comics. In this regard, Marvel has entered into an exclusive publishing agreement, whereby Quesada and Palmiotti will produce four Marvel titles: Daredevil, Black Panther, Inhumans and The Punisher. Marvel will market and distribute the titles produced under this agreement. Based in Marvels New York headquarters, Quesada and Palmiotti will report to Bob Harras, Editor-In-Chief, Marvel Comics Group. With writer/director Kevin Smith already onboard to scribe the first six issues of Daredevil, Quesada and Palmiotti promise to assemble and lead an all-star team in the new genesis of story arcs for the four Marvel titles. Calamari stated, "This alliance is another indication of the strength and vitality of Marvel's characters. Joe and Jimmy are recognized stars. Having these two talents and their teams working on Daredevil, Black Panther, Inhumans and The Punisher is exciting for the entire industry." Quesada commented, "Jimmy and I are incredibly excited about the opportunity Marvel has given us. This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to take a set of characters and give them a fresh and unique spin without changing the formula that Stan Lee gave the world. We will take that classic formula of super heroes with human frailties and bring it into the new millennium." Palmiotti added, "It is a thrill for us to put our own spin on the books we grew up with. I think of this move as a natural step for us. This will be a blast for everyone and we promise it will be obvious in the books." The re-invigorated titles expect to hit comic shop shelves during late Summer 1998. Joe Quesada and Jimmy Palmiotti founded Event Comics in 1995.
