Star Trek: AR-558 Book One Of Three: "Death Valley!!!"

As a lot of people know right now, I am writing a story for the "Pocket Books" Company. It is based on "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" episode "The Siege Of AR-558." Since I thought it was the best "Star Trek" episode ever concieved of the four series, I thought I might want to write about it. I have recieved no word back on wether or not they want my story, but since some are interested in my abilities, this is the only place in the universe where a preview will be found.

It is based on "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" Episode "The Siege Of AR-558." This tells about the characters that commanded the captured Dominion Communications Array "AR-558," that was never seen because they were all killed before the Defiant crew arrives. This story goes deeper into their characters, and explores the things they went through. This will be book one of a three part book series. I will write books one and two. I hope book three will be the actual episode.

It's a pity that almost no one of these so called Star Trek fans know nothing of the Federation/Dominion War!!! I am going to correct that. As far as the rest of the ones who saw the episode are concerned. I am going to write about a completely different crew. The characters like Captain Lumas and Commander Parker that were killed in the episode will be explored deeply in books one and two (well, mostly two). This book will have a lot more graphic action than the average Star Trek novel. The troops seen at AR-558 came from the Federation Military Reserves on Deep Space One. Lumas, a long time combat verteran looses his ship after having it decomissioned during the war. Then is reassigned to the Communications Array known as AR-558 in the Chin'Toka System. Since the Federation took the system from the Dominion, the whole system is a battle field. There will be a great deal to work with in a short amount of time with new characters and everything. The crew of the U.S.S. Defiant will be a minor factor until book three when the actual episode happens. But the crew of the U.S.S. Thunder Child (Akira), and the Crazy Horse (Excelsior) will be introduced. The Climax of the story doesn't happen until Chapters Eight through Ten. There will be action as far as sapce battles are concerned, as well as one the ground. Many of the characters are suppose to die origionally, but I will determine how they give their lives. I will tell that they loose AR-558 in a huge aerial assualt in the climax.

Opinion: I really had a fun time writing this story out. I've been the past couple of weeks on it, but most of it seemed to flow quite naturally to me. I enjoyed writing out Lt. Riese's character as well as Lt. Vargas. They both were very much alike, and some new Dominion Characters will be included. Doing the space battles, with the descriptions, and the narrations were probably the most difficult parts of the story. The climax is going under some alterations though. But if this this does make it, I will plan to write book two, which may I say is already being mapped out at this very moment.
