Do you recall him? Was he an agent? Where? Is he alive? His name sounds familiar but I can't pin it down. I'm attaching a pic that was with the article. H. Elmer is #56 on the 1955 Station Personnel Seniority List. He is #25 on a March 1, 1962 seniority list. His date of classification is 4-18-51 He is shown as station manager at Clifton on a Mar. 1, 1956 station list sent by Ed Baker. -Jake Lamkins (1/29/05) I worked with Hearold Elmer in Safford (SAD) and Clifton (CFT) AZ in the 1953-1955 timeframe. I was a Relief Agent, so I would be back and forth from time to time. To begin with, Hearold Elmer was a Station Agent in SAD. The Manager was Bob Patterson. Later on Hearold was made Manager of CFT. I lost track of him after 1955. I remember that he owned the mineral rights of a large tract of land that had some valuable minerals (Gold? Uranium?) on it. I heard from the grapevine that and that he became very rich from it after he left the FAL employment. Lietz and Shirlee. He is in pain, and with tubes running in and out all over, but he remains in very good spirits. We need to drop him a line from time to time to let him know we still think of him. I hadn't seen him for 50 years, but we still hit it right off. I reminded him of the last time I had seen him in 1955, when he was in the Arizona National Guard and he had flown his P-51 Mustang from Phoenix over to Clifton (CFT) to see Hearold Elmer, who was then the manager at CFT. After his visit, he got back into his P-51 and took off then he did a 180 and came the length of the runway at about 100 feet altitude doing slow rolls the whole way. It was awesome. -Ed Baker (5/30/05) Hearold Elmer was station manager in Winslow in the late 1950s and early 1960s. That's where I met him. If I remember correctly, he was instrumental in bringing union membership to the FAL agents. He had a lot of help from another fellow who was Senior Agent in Flagstaff, but I can't remember his name. Can anyone help me out on that? -Mac McElhaney (ABQ '58 - '85) (5/30/05) Hearold also worked in Denver in 69-70 as system trainer for station agents. He worked for Al Springer. I was trained by him in February 1970. -Tom Schmidt (5/30/05) The memory is a little slow these days, but I think the Sr. Agent in FLG who was also very instrumental in developing the agent's union was Kerry Allen. That would have been in late 1958 or 1959. He also served on the union negotiating committee a number of times. Does that name ring a bell with anyone? -Mac McElhaney (5/31/05) I first met Hearold Elmer in about 1953 when he was a Station Agent in Safford/SAD along with Station Manager Bob Patterson. He owned the mineral rights to some property in the area which was expected to have uranium on it. I never heard how that turned out. He was then transferred to Clifton/CFT as Station Manager. I worked with him on and off for about two years. Then I left FAL and lost track of him. I hope this adds something to your research. Ed Baker / JBX (5/31/05)
